Coded Arms - PSP review at Thunderbolt Games

Remember Konami? What happened to them? They used to be a premier game studio, releasing games like Suikoden, Silent Hill, and Metal Gear Solid. Lately though, all of their games suck. Suikoden 3 and Suikoden 4 were disappointing sequels. Silent Hill 3...

Coded Arms

The one elusive game type for a portable has to be the first-person shooter. Other than one or two exceptions, there really haven't been too many first person games in the handheld market. Thus enter Coded Arms.

Overall, other than a few nice points, Coded Arms falls well short of the mark. What could have been a great game is hampered by a frustrating control scheme and rather bland design. FPS fans are better off waiting to see if anything else comes down...

Coded Arms

Though it may seem limited in terms of color, Coded Arms is a very nice looking game. The VR style might seem drab and dull, but the artistic merit is strong, rendering a world that looks computerized and artificial. In a lot of ways the visual style...

Coded Arms on PSP

It's an FPS…for your PSP!

I think the coolest aspect of this game is that you’re in a computer world. That means you collect .wpn (weapon) and .dfn (defense) files. Also, the enemies you’re after are bugs (get it?). Coded Arms does a great job of reminding you that you aren’t...

Coded Arms

Konami delivers the first FPS shooter to the PSP.

Coded Arms has a short but engaging story mode. A few levels, some good boss battles, and a ton of enemies to destroy and you will make your way through the game in a matter of a few hours. The replay value comes in two forms, first being the...

Coded Arms Sony PSP Review

The enemies that populate the levels come across as dull in the A.I. department. While not completely brain-dead, their general behavior is no more than repeating the same patterns over and over again. They pose a challenge more so from the fact that...

The game looks and sounds really good; especially on such a purdy screen as the PSP

Has very few redeeming qualities as far as an FPS goes; frustrating controls, sub-par AI and boring levels and environments

It's inevitable that every platform gets at least one first person shooter. For the PSP, its first is Coded Arms, and things have really started off on the wrong foot. Coded Arms is a boring, monotonous and derivative first person shooter wrapped in a...

Coded Arms

PSP owners finally have the FPS they've been waiting for, but it appears that Konami's aim is way off.

Solid graphics engine; quick load times; wide variety of weapons; enjoyable multiplayer action; some nice visual touches

Boring, repetitive level design; wireless multiplayer can be laggy; annoying (though customizable) controls; weak enemy AI

Coded Arms

It seems like I begin every PSP review the same, and that is by saying that this is a platform that is desperately searching for a standout title to

Coded Arms really had its opportunity to be noticed but with the repetitive gameplay and the poor AI the game unfortunately just is nothing to write home about. Unless you can’t live without a FPS on your PSP, you are probably better off without Coded...

Coded Arms Review

Repetition to go

Coded Arms's clunky controls that are anything but inviting. I had no desire to return to this game after playing it for a measly 60 minutes. None! Even mediocre games like Batman Begins have something that makes you want to return. The monsters are...

Coded Arms review for the PSP

Drop your weapons.

Pretty lighting; A few multiplayer modes; Adjustable controls

in a sea of bad control; No plot integration; Drab, small environments; Repetitive everything

Coded Arms is such a weak rendition of a first-person-shooter, it makes us wonder whether such a thing is even possible on the single-analog PSP. But regardless of what triumphs and failures the future holds for the system, this is one game that should...
