Lord of Arcana (PSP)

Taking on quests, killing monsters, and slowly advancing from a relative weakling into the greatest warrior the realm has ever seen. It's the stuff of legends passed down from generation to generation, and when it's done right, it's the stuff of...

With the huge success that Capcom has made with the Monster Hunter series, many other game developers are making their own “hunter” games to cash in on that success. One of those developers is Square Enix and Access Games with the release of Lord of...

Square Enix saw how popular the Monster Hunter series was and decided to try their luck with something similar with Lord of Arcana. Action that is a bit faster paced and music by the one and only Nobuo Uematsu outshine the flaws. Cheap deaths caused by...

Lord of Arcana

Lord of Arcana left me speechless. Not in the way that video games often do; in fact, when a game is ostensibly good or offensively bad, it's hard for me to keep my mouth shut. It is in my nature to talk about games to praise their prowess and attack...

I like to go off the beaten path when reviewing games. I?m the sort who actively combs the new release calendar curious about the releases that never had the marketing muscle of the Call of Duty: Black Ops?s and the Bulletstorms of gaming. ?When you...

Lord of Arcana isn?t completely broken, but it?s just a flop. No ambition, no uniqueness, and little if any appeal even to its target audience.

game if deep, real-time RPG combat is what you're after

Tons of armor and weapons, fast travel to quest start locations

No reward for non-hosts in multiplayer, unalterable lock-on mechanic, dull combat

Lords of… *loading*.

Lots of play time; Characters are detailed

Very, very repetitive; No real plot or characters to speak of; Loading, loading everywhere

Tedious quests and dull, infuriating combat make this one fantasy adventure whose monsters you won't want to hunt.

Becoming more powerful and earning better gear is satisfying ; A few nifty stylistic flourishes in battle

Combat is tedious and repetitive ; Bosses employ some infuriating tricks and take far too long to defeat ; Frequent loading times and other minor annoyances ; Bland visuals

This remains true when tackling boss monsters. Agni, a flaming rock giant, rolls up into a ball, speeds around the arena for a while, and then stands up, woozy and disoriented, giving you an obvious chance to strike. This repeats again and again and...

Not even some fairly gorgeous environments or contributions from the great Nobuo Uematsu can save this adventure.

Interesting monster design, multiplayer is an option if you have the friends around

Crushing solo difficulty, no online multiplayer, too much grinding

Square Enix brings us a new action RPG to chew on. We cut through the fat and gristle to bring you the real deal on Lord of Arcana.

When you think of developer and publisher Square Enix, you can't help but immediately think of the Final Fantasy franchise. This time around gamers are being treated to a new action RPG instead of a rehash of the same series. Well, that's what we would...

Maybe you're a fan of action/RPGs that focus a bit more on action…so much so that the role-playing elements take a back seat to the flashy, over-the-top action. If so, you should definitely pay attention to Square-Enix's handheld adventure, Lord of...

Personally, I like being able to customize my characters. You can outfit them with different clothing and weapons and after outfitting, you’ll be dropped into a dungeon or specific area where monsters abound. You’ll find treasure chests as you move...
