Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play (PSP)

Midway has been releasing packages with its classic games for some time now, and now the company's arcade lineup has been released on the PSP, in the form of Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play. Looking at the back of the box, this looks like an...

The idea of game compilations is certainly not new, in fact every year it seems that a new company takes a stab at creating one. While their efforts are certainly...

Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play

Let me make one thing clear from the beginning: Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play is a fun collection of 21 classics covering almost every genre one could ever want. You've got sports games (Arch Rivals, 720°, Cyberball 2072), fighters (Mortal...

Like I said in the beginning, I can't deny that I've had fun with Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play. The outstanding collection of games here is simply too great to ignore, but so are the collection's shortcomings. The load times are horrendous,...

Midway Arcade Treasures Extended Play

Returning to the 1980s era of video games is a surprising journey. Not only are you faced with blocky, un-detailed and overly repetitive visuals that are simply not attractive, but you also experience a level of gameplay that has long been lost with...

Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play

No stranger to Greatest Hits compilations, Midway releases yet another collection of 21 arcade titles this time exclusive to the PSP. Each title is a near duplicate of the arcade original with some sacrifices taken along the way to bring the title to...

Stay away from this compilation unless you absolutely must play Rampage, Defender, or Xenophobe.

Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play

Midway Arcade Treasures set the benchmark for old school arcade compilations with it wealth of titles and background information. The second volume took some of the more “controversial” titles from Midway's past (such as Mortal Kombat II and 3, Pit...

21 arcade games ; Wireless multiplayer on the go

Defenitely not arcade perfect ; Technical issues (such as sound and framerate) that can drag down the enjoyment ; Control scheme comprimises ; Packed with too many of the "hit" games leaving little room for future compilations

It's not perfect, but I defy you to find a better use for the PSP. These games are perfect, as they are playable in short bursts, which the PSP handles very well with its portability.

Midway Arcade Treasures: Extended Play

Midway has truly set the standard for gaming nostalgia with their Arcade Treasures series. With the previous installments, Midway hasn't done anything flashy or extravagant with the presentation of these classic games; in fact, the low key display of...

Don't get me wrong ? it may seem like I'm overtly negative about the PSP port. I'm not trying to be; all gamers should play these classics at some point in their gaming life, and the option to have 21 of them wherever you are is a truly appealing...

Don't let the kids see this collection or they'll never believe your stories about how games were better back in the day.

There are a lot of games to choose from; the game selection contains very little filler -- these are classic games

Frequent control bugs; poor screen ratios make many of the games look worse than they used to; some sound glitches; intrusive load times in the MK titles
