Graphically NBA looks pretty nice, with a slick framerate and solidly animated players to play on shiny, accurate courts. However, the game obviously was not optimized for a portable due to some annoying flaws. Using the default camera, players are far...

As just about every gamer knows, basketball games are an inevitable part of any hardware launch. Not only is it a competitive sport that appeals to casual and hardcore gamers alike, it's a relatively easy game that can demonstrate the capabilities of...

Considering that this is the first basketball title on the PSP, you'd really hope that the sport came out with a slam dunk. Unfortunately, NBA comes across more like an air ball or a hard brick off the backboard. A limited seasonal play, shoddy AI and...

NBA review for the PSP

A brand new arena, but the same old team.

Internet play works well

But the gameplay doesn\'t; Crummy new shooting scheme; Sluggish control; Stupid A.I

Come to think of it, go ahead and leave NBA on the shelf, too. It might be the first basketball game for the PSP, but that doesn't make it a good one. Shoddy control and rough A.I. mar the gameplay, while the lack of any sort of deeper Franchise system...

989 Sports has had some bad luck with their basketball titles on the PS2 lately. In fact, they even took the 2005 game off their schedule in order to regroup and figure out how to improve the quality of their NBA Shootout title. Unfortunately, even...

Overall, NBA is just an average game that needs some more fine-tuning. 989 Sports has made some improvements to the game but this title is still in need of some more work. I hope that next year's version can improve upon the issues with this game and...

NBA Review

While it may seem that the PSP launch is being met with nothing but praise, NBA is a clear air ball.

To its credit, NBA 2005 is playable, and if you're just messing around with a friend I'm sure you'll have some level of fun, but I just plain think it's one of the few bad PSP launch games. It's an embarrassment to the sport of basketball as portrayed...

The PSP's first basketball game definitely plays like it's the PSP's first basketball game. Then again, it does have online play.

Fun, lag-free online multiplayer; decent visuals; only basketball game available

Not enough depth; A.I. is too difficult; limited online options; gameplay feels empty

NBA Sony PSP Review

Skills Challenge is a fairly enjoyable practice mode where you can shoot, pass, and dribble around non-moving defenders. It's fun for a time, though it can quickly get boring. The Three-Point Contest is your typical All-Star weekend rainbow fest, but...

Looks great, and a ton of gameplay options

Shooting system is terrible, making the game a frustrating experience

A few days ago a friend and I were talking about Sony's first-party PSP lineup and he excitedly asked how 989 Studios' NBA turned out. Disgusted with my experience, all I did was shake my head. This resulted in a sad expression that immediately...

Hands-on with Sony's first PSP roundball sim.

The crowd roar and normal squeaks and grunts were solid, though we'll have to give the game a better listen in a place that was quieter than the Sony event space we played the game in. At the very least, the game certainly feels like a modest and...

NBA PlayStation Portable Review

Unintuitive, uninspired and unbelievably generic.

In the end, NBA feels like a title with a lot of potential that just fell short in too many areas. It doesn't help matters that there are now quite a few other basketball games on the PSP that play better and are a lot more fun. No turbo, dull...
