Silent Hill: Origins

When Konami announced that it would bring the next installment in its Silent Hill franchise to the PSP, many hardcore fans of the series complained. While it would appear that Konami is set to appease them (and shareholders) with a PS2 port of Silent...

If you heed the game’s opening, and play it with the lights off and the headphones on as I did, you’ll find that Silent Hill: Origins is every bit as creepy and atmospheric as any of the previous console installments have been. While I found it a...

Travis Grady is an introverted truck driver who doesn't care that he can't remember his past. While taking a detour past the town of Silent Hill, he swerves to avoid a child in the road, but then she vanishes. Close by, a house burns with a voice...

Silent Hill: Origins

One of the most disquieting things about theSilent Hill series at the moment is that they aren't being made in-house anymore. Silent Hill 5 is in the questionably capable hands of the Collective, and Silent Hill Origins was produced by Climax, the...

It's also very short, but it's a portable game, so that's not a deal-breaker. Origins is better than it has any right to be, considering the PSP's history, its troubled development, and its new team. It's not perfect, but it does make me want to see...

Konami takes Silent Hill fans back to the beginning, telling the tale of the town's dark legacy.

Great addition to the Silent Hill franchise; presentation is as creepy and disturbing as ever

Grady's combat skills feel overpowered; camera issues plague certain areas

document.write(""); With a new developer, though, come a few changes to the tried-and-true formula that's gotten the series where it is today. Probably the biggest change is the emphasis on combat. Unlike most of the everyday Joes that find their ways...

Silent Hill: Origins review for the PSP

Highbrow Horror

Not a Silent Hill imitation; Detail-driven story; Scary, especially in the dark with headphones

Clunky combat; On the short side; Weak conclusion

That all of this has been accomplished on the PSP by a little-known developer with a rejected project is a stupendous surprise. The graphics are among the best the PSP has seen yet, sitting somewhere between the graphical prowess of the PS1 and PS2....

The chills are handheld-sized, but no less horrifying

Great atmosphere you're used to ; Best combat yet in a SH game ; Yes, it scares

Story lacks focus ; Some lame jump-scares ; Slow and dreary

Silent Hill Origins

Origins has all the hallmarks of a great Silent Hill game, but it does nothing to eradicate the series' faults. Predictably, fans of the franchise will find it more enjoyable than others.

Great visuals ; Intensely moody

Main character is a little casual ; Save system is awful

Origins has all the hallmarks of a great Silent Hill game, but it does nothing to eradicate the series' faults. Predictably, fans of the franchise will find it more enjoyable than others - there's plenty of references to the previous games and tonnes...

In the beginning there was dark

The point is that we all know small things have the potential to be sphincter-collapsingly frightening. But a horror game on a handheld... well..

Silent Hill Origins (PSP) review

A return… to the town, and to form.

A return to the town, and to form, Silent Hill Origins puts the franchise back on track after the lacklustre fourth game. It’s a little too strict in its adherence to previous entries, but Climax has done a stellar job.

“Great on PSP actually.”

I disagree with the opening of the NowGamer review. We know it's a horrow game, and what better way than in a dark room, and especially with headphones. Who would trust not being mugged on a tube with a PSP anyway? So I followed that ambient...
