Unchained Blades

It's funny how an opinion can shift while playing through a game. I first thought that Unchained Blades would be a diamond in the rough. While J-RPGs as a whole haven't been up to scratch lately, there was the promise of first-person dungeon crawling....

Unchained Blades

With a title like Unchained Blades, one would think the latest localized import from XSEED is hack and slash action title rather than a RPG. Poor

Unchained Blades

Unchained Blades is a game for the PlayStation Portable, which might seem odd, but it must be remembered that long after the PlayStation 2 had been surpassed there were games being released for the platform. Sony's handheld might not have garnered the...

Solid JRPG gameplay ; Plenty to do ; Variety of gameplay styles mostly works well

Arbitrary story elements and plot points ; Characters are cliche ; Mishmash of gameplay styles will put off some

It won't sway you in favor of JRPGs, but if you're a fan of the genre there's enough in Unchained Blades to warrant a purchase.

Unchained Blades Playtest: This Blade Is A Bit Rough Around The Edges

One of the major issues with the Unchain mechanic is how easy it is to accidentally kill the monster that can be Unchained.

Unchained Blades

The PSP has long been the home for some of the best modern role-playing games. From must-own modern remakes like Tactics Ogre and Persona 3 Portable, incredible original titles like Crisis Core and Valkyria Chronicles II, and a collection of strong...

Unchained Blades is ultimately marred by a narrative structure that works against the best elements of the role-playing game genre. Just when things are about to get good, the game throws you for a loop and hits the reset button. The simple gameplay...

Review: Unchained Blades for PSP

Unchained Blades is a challenging, but fairly straightforward, first person dungeon crawler with turn-based battles and pretty characters.

Great character and enemy art. Have party members and up to four recruitable monsters per party member. Follower monsters can take hits for your party members or allow them to use special skills. Damage taken fills a Burst Gauge and lets you use...

I’d almost say too many tutorials, as every little thing is explained. Level-grinding is absolutely mandatory. Dungeons all look the same. All that means exploring can get rather tedious after a few hours. Doesn’t work on the Vita yet

Unchained Blades Review

The PSP continues to pump out quality RPGs long after the system is irrelevant.

Nice presentation ; Good RPG combat ; Great leveling system ; Interesting story

Grinding is required ; Unchaining can become a chore ; May be too difficult for some players
