Anthem MRX700 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver - Product Review

The MRX700 delivers more-than-enough power for most rooms and provides exceptional sound. Practical features I really liked included: Comprehensive audio processing options, analog-to-HDMI video conversion and upscaling, 3D pass-through, and Anthem...

Anthem MRX 700 AV Receiver Reviewed

Andrew Robinson was a little skeptical about the Anthem MRX 700 AV receiver, thinking that the price and features didn't quite add up. But after he put the receiver through its paces, he saw that the MRX 700 is greater than the sum of its parts.

I must admit I was a bit perplexed by the MRX 700 AV receiver at first, for right off the bat it appears to be a touch over-priced, low on power and packing half of the bells and whistles that many of its competition. However having lived with it now...

Anthem MRX700 review

Canada: a land of sweeping mountains, pine forests and ice hockey, where maple syrup rules and giant moose walk the streets. But what the country is becoming increasingly famous for is its rather tasty AV equipment.

Fantastically engaging sound; excellent ARC EQ system; exceptional build

Complex to set up, frugal features; low HDMI count

Anthem MRX 700 review

With its quirky and complex setup, the ARC-based 7.1-channel AV receiver causes audio-induced euphoria

Fantastically engaging sound ; Excellent ARC EQ system ; Exceptional build

Complex to set up ; Frugal features ; Low HDMI count

With the ARC tuned to perfection, the MRX 700 establishes a new standard of sonic performance at this price point, and leaves the rest of the pack sounding a little lacklustre by comparison.

Anthem MRX 700

A fantastic-sounding product and well worthy of a serious audition

A fast, agile and musical sound ; impressive sonic precision ; good equalisation system

Rivals offer more features

We’re impressed by the Anthem’s ability to track sounds between the speaker channels, too – effects are panned with confidence and pinpoint precision. All in all this is a terrific performance for the money.

Anthem MRX 700 AV receiver

This Canadian AV receiver makes some unusual but sensible choices in set-up and implementation, and proves a powerful performer.

What can I say? If I had used this receiver for a few weeks and knew only that it was a Canadian or US brand, I would have expected it to be selling for $5000. It may not be worth $5000, but by golly it is worth $3000. The Anthem MRX 700 is one very...
