Denon AVR-1911

For some home theater enthusiasts, AV receivers have lost their way. What used to be a relatively simple device with a focus on sound quality is now the complicated hub of your home theater, handling audio, video, and sometimes even online streaming...

Outstanding sound quality; four HDMI inputs; analog video upconversion; audio return channel support; standby pass-through; 3D compatible; built-in HD Radio; greatly improved remote over previous models.

Competitors offer more HDMI inputs; fewer digital audio inputs and analog video connections, too; text-based user interface; no minijack input.

The Denon AVR-1911 costs more than competitors and has fewer features, but its outstanding sound quality bests competing 7.1-channel AV receivers.

Denon AVR-1911

Denon upholds its enviable reputation with yet another admirable AV receiver.

Excellent sound quality ; Video upscaling to 1080p ; USB audio playback ; Ipod compatible without dock

Very limited connectivity ; Poor features for price

We like the unit’s massive LED display panel that shows information clearly. A row of buttons is tucked along the bottom edge of this, providing up-close control for the unit’s sound processing features. Front panel connections include a USB port,...

Denon AVR-1911

A step up on 2009's Award-winner, but the Denon's under huge pressure

Ticks all the important specification boxes; converts and scales video information well; industrial-strength audio performance

Not as subtle, or as spacious, as some rivals; remote is a step backwards

Denon AVR-1911 AV receiver

With its AVR-1911 AV receiver, Denon appears to be leading the way in moving from older forms of connection to HDMI dominance. This is an excellent way of saving money — or, rather, redirecting money

If Denon could release new firmware to fix that behaviour with 1080i/50 material, this unit would be the best of the three in this group for video processing. As it stands, it kind of splits the difference between the other two receivers. The power...

"Very good sound "

I had to "trick" its limited inputs - I plug my turn table into my Input Extender then route its phono preamp through the Denon CD IN socket. My VHS player goes through my DVD sockets. My cassette player goes to my Input Extender then to the CD socket...

The sound is excellent

Short on input sockets - I had to buy an input extender with phono preamp
