Cambridge Audio Azur 540R Version 2, 6.1-channel A/V Receiver

When I lifted Cambridge Audio's Azur 540R from its box, I was pleasantly surprised to find the compact-looking AVR weighs almost 35 pounds, indicating substantial components within— exactly what you would expect from a firm that has been producing...

Cambridge Audio Azur 540R review

Superb performance from an attractive amp

The Cambridge 540R is a no-frills, straightforward home cinema amplifier that puts in a solid performance with movies and music at a great price

Cambridge Audio Azur 540Rv3 review

The 540R v3 is capable of lighting a fire under any film or music you care to play

Good looks, nice remote ; agile, forceful sound in stereo or multichannel modes

Lacks some specification niceties ; not the most subtle or detailed listen

Some compromises required, but this Cambridge offers visceral thrills at a reasonable price. Those of a nervous disposition need not apply

Cambridge Audio Azur 540R (Version 3)

Cambridge Audio's latest Azur 540R receiver is ideal for an entry-level buyer who is more concerned with performance than the latest features.

Competitive price ; Ease of use ; Dynamic sound performance with multi-channel and stereo

Uninspired design ; Basic connectivity ; No auto setup ; No video up-conversion

Conclusion Cambridge Audio's Azur 540R (Version 3) is an ideal entry-level receiver that offers excellent usability and performance for an affordable price. It's missing several features, such as integrated video up-conversion and an automatic...

Cambridge Audio Azur 540R V3

This is the second revision in the Azur 540R's short lifespan and demonstrates Cambridge Audio's speedy response to the competitive home entertainment market. Externally, version three looks no different from its predecessors

Impressive features list, Punchy sound, Decent HD connectivity

Basic-looking menus, Sound can be too bright

The new version of the acclaimed six-channel receiver adds HDMI and performance tweaks to an already successful mix

Cambridge Audio Azur 540 v2.0

Cambridge Audio is largely responsible for revitalising the budget hi-fi market with its Azur range of CD players and amplifiers setting new standards at affordable prices. And, the latest version offers the same impressive sound quality with an...

Excellent build quality; flexible multi-room features; detailed, dynamic and rhythmical sound

Occasionally bright treble; no phono stage

Cambridge Audio Azur 540C and 540A

The last Cambridge Audio CD/amp pairing I reviewed - consisting of the Azur 640C and 640A - knocked my socks off so fast I got friction burns. This time, we match up the little brothers of both units, the Azur 540C and 540A, and keep both feet well...

Alternatively, buy the 640A and stick your money on one of the CD players featured in this month's comparative review of budget decks by our esteemed (steamed?) editor. You might still prefer the 540C from what you read of its nearest competitors, but...

Cambridge Audio Azur 540R (Version 3)

Cambridge Audio Azur 540R is simple but heavy duty machine. I like its bass which is great. And one more thing is its very cheap.

Great performance ; Cheap and reliable
