Denon AVR-5800 Audio/Video Receiver

The Denon AVR-5800 offers the home-theater buff an impressive package. It has an excellent power-amp section, all the current processing modes one would likely need, and a good user interface that includes the AKTIS RC-8000 LCD touchscreen remote...

Denon AVR-5800 A/V receiver

What it Does The AVR-5800 is the first receiver to offer DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, which puts a discrete (not matrixed, or derived from the L/R rear) center channel behind you. Few films so far are so encoded, but don't worry—as already noted, the Denon...

Receivers, Tuners, and Integrated Amps: Audio/Video Receivers: Denon AVR-5800

The AVR-5800 is without question the most advanced and best-sounding AVR on the market. With every known form of surround sound decoding, seven amplifier channels, plenty of power, and a generous connectivity complement, the AVR-5800 can serve as the...

Product Specifications

The AVR-5800 comes with a THX Ultra Certified seven-channel high power amp. It features an equal power (170 watts) seven-channel amplifier section with identical design on all seven channels. The chassis is constructed so that unwanted vibrations are suppressed and excess vented heat is minimized. It uses highly accurate 24-bit, 96kHZ A/D converters to handle analog to digital conversion. The AVR-5800 is the world's first AV component that is equipped with the DTS-ES (true discrete) 6.1 decoder, developed by DTS to provide dramatically improved surround sound panoramic reproduction and superior surround sound localization. DDSC-Digital is a specially designed circuit configuration in which all the elements of the surround processor are optimized by the use of selected high performance discrete elements, including separate A/D and D/A conversion, with sophisticated dual DSP surround decoding. In addition to surround sound playback, the AVR-5800 lets you enjoy pure 2-channel stereo sound as well through its Pure Direct mode. The AVR-5800 includes a renowned 24 bit ALPHA processing technology that reproduces digital signals in a waveform with the smoothness of analog signals. The AVR-5800 provides a Multi Zone Output function and a Select function that let you output different sources to multiple zones. The AVR-5800's Power Amplifier Assign function lets you assign the 2 Surround Back (SB L/R) amplifier channels to instead drive the Multi-room Zone 2 powered speaker outputs, with 170 Watts per channel power output capability, while still providing 5 full amplifier channels to drive the main and surround speakers in the home theater room. The included RC-8000 remote has large 320 x 240 dot LCD incorporating a touch panel that lets you operate it directly by touching the display. It includes a backlight to facilitate operation in the dark as well. The RC-8001ST Charger Base Station is equipped with a wired data output terminal as well as an IR emitter terminal. This wired data output can be connected directly to the AVR-5800 or to the data input port of a Denon RC-616 IR re-transmitter, and you can connect an IR supplemental emitter such as Denon's RC-618, or other IR emitter types. The RC-8001ST also provides a battery charging function. The Ni-Cad battery pack that comes with the RC-8001ST is inserted into the RC-8000 and you can charge the batteries in the RC-8000 by simply placing it onto the RC-8001ST charger base station. The excessive charge prevention function prolongs the Ni-Cad battery life, even if the RC-8000 is left in the charger base station for an extended period. The RC-8000 includes a USB port that lets you connect it to a PC where you can back up settings or do editing work.
