MX-760HD Wireless Media Receiver

This player handles many formats but calls for plenty of tech savvy. You can also add your own hard drive.

Very good picture and sound, Expandable with an internal IDE hard drive

Horribly documented, Tends to fall over

I liked being able to install my own hard drive, however. You can transfer, edit, rename, or delete files on the Mvix's drive from your PC, over the network. By copying files to it, you can avoid network problems and free up space on your PC's hard...

Mvix MX-760HD review: Mvix MX-760HD

Mvix MX-760HD

Excellent file format compatibility; DVI output to as high as 1080p; slot for internal hard drive; Ethernet and 802.11b/g wireless networking; two USB 2.0 ports; outputs full 5.1 DTS and Dolby soundtracks.

Hard drive enclosure is a very tight fit; user interface could be better; wireless performance is poor for video; no 802.11n; 480p, 720p, and 1080p modes have video-quality issues; image shifted to the left; no fast-forward/rewind on audio files;...

The Mvix MX-760 streaming media hard disk enclosure is absolutely jam-packed with features, but its varied assortment of quirks will probably limit its appeal to the enthusiast and DIY crowds.

Mvix MX-760 HD Wireless Multimedia Player

For those of you not ready to take the plunge into a Media Center PC, you have a near-perfect alternative in the Mvix HD Multimedia Player.

The Mvix MX-760 HD Multimedia Player isn't the answer for everyone. It solves a very specific need. As I said before, its audio playback is rudimentary and, worse yet, the image slideshow is grainy at best. However, if you don't have an HD output card...
