There's no built-in AirPlay support, so the Onkyo TX-NR609 wouldn't be our top choice if you have an iOS device. It also doesn't sound quite as good as the Pioneer and Denon, especially using the automatic speaker calibration.

The Onkyo TX-NR609 has six HDMI inputs and lots of built-in streaming music services, but it lacks AirPlay and doesn't sound quite as good to our ears as some competitors.

The feature set of the $599 Onkyo TX-NR609 is very cutting edge. If you are planning on buying a receiver, either for yourself or your family this is a fantastic option.

A musically-endowed, super-featured value AV receiver

Comprehensive features ; Stunning sound quality

No analogue multichannel inputs

The Audyssey 2EQ auto setup works its magic with the supplied mic and test tones, or you can take the DIY option by delving into the onscreen set-up menu, which uses the same logical layout as last year's models but with swanky new fonts and graphics.

Onkyo TX-NR609 review

An AV amplifier can do much more than just drive your speakers. Onkyo's latest model, the TX-NR609, is an excellent amplifier which is also packed with extra features.

It’s great when used as a basic amplifier, but the NR609’s extra features make it practically unbeatable
