Onkyo TX-NR616

Browsing the prices for Onkyo's receivers can give you the familiar feeling of "too good to be true." Take the Onkyo TX-NR616. At its $410 street price it costs around $100 less than comparable models from other manufacturers, and it offers a...

The Onkyo TX-NR616 is feature-packed, with eight HDMI inputs, dual HDMI outputs, built-in networking, and extensive streaming audio support, including Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, and Internet radio. Wi-Fi functionality can be added with a tiny,...

Some users have complained about reliability problems. The eighth HDMI input cannot be accessed via direct button, only by navigating menus. And the TX-NR616 lacks built-in AirPlay.

The Onkyo TX-NR616 is a tremendous AV receiver value, with eight HDMI inputs and a very low street price, although Onkyo's step-down models may be an even better buy.

"A great receiver with loads of features."

I am extremely pleased with this receiver. It is a perfect replacement for my old Yamaha RDX630 which served me for many years.

This is a superb receiver and excellent value. I love the networking features and the vast array of connectivity options. It drives my DALI Zensor speaker system beautifully and with ease - I rarely have it above 55%.

Very few. The networking interface looks aged and isn't easy to use without the mobile app. Zone 2 connectors are low quality. Other buyers have reported HDMI issues.

"Great Second Choice - Probably should have been first!"

I originally bought the Harman-Kardon AVR 2650. It was simply amazing in both style and performance (in Blu-Ray). But when I watched HD sources (Cable, Satellite, OTA) a loud chirping noise was emitting through the speakers. H/K support was...

+ Great sound quality!

- Up-scaling is so-so, not much of a fan, but I don't really use it that much as most of my devices are HDMI

"HDMI Problems plague the Onkyo line"

It is appalling that CNET appears to completely ignore the quality and reliability issues that Onkyp have exhibited across multiple AV receivers and multiple years. The problems are clearly not a single product problem - having just had to trash my...

Price and number of ports

ONKYO HDMI Problems are horrific across many versions of their AV receivers over the last several years - DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND

"Simply do not buy this receiver"

I never write reviews but I'm taking the time to write one now because I don't want anyone else to spend 4 hours setting this up only to unplug it, box it up and ship it back.

It's a great receiver, on paper. The features and capabilities are fantastic for the price. But none of them matter if the unit does not work.

HDMI failed after 2 days. You can read this everywhere this receiver is reviewed.

"THE worse reviews I have ever read on review sites"

The product was issues 6 months ago and the number of refurbished units available plus story marking price down 50% is a warning sign. The CNET one review may be one of the 40% bogus reviews that are posted on sites according to the New York Times.

All the features you would want for a terrific price

All top internet retailers give this the lowest rating I have seen. 3 firmware updates that just do not seem to fix. HDMI issues with sync and video. Power issues with amount of volume running at 80% plus to put out medium room theater audio.

"Best AVR in its Class"

It works excellent. Its cheap for all the features it has. Sound is excellent. Great product. Love to show it off.

Super easy to use, works right out of the box, tons of options, tons of HDMI, very intuitive, great price for all that it can do, internet integration is good (I use the wireless connector)

Apple play is not clear, still trying to make it AirPlay. Remote kind of bulky, but not a big deal

Like a half price Mercedes

This AVR is the best deal I've gotten on anything in a long time. I was waiting for the sky to fall with the reviews but it's been flawless. My Energy Take 5.1 system sounds very nice. Initial firmware update performed before connecting anything....

Has the feature of much more expensive AVR's ; Everything works flawlessly ; Wireless works perfect even in a closed cabinet 30 feet and three walls away ; Love the iphone app and with CEC I never need the Onkyo remote ; Three zones is unheard of at...

Audyssey 2EQ...MultiEQ obviously is better

excellent reciever

great sound. I am using polk speakers and am just amazed at the sound that is coming out. The %.1 is sounding great I can not wait to here what blue ray and 7.1 one is going to sound like ; But even better is the music the instrumental and vocals are...

I don't like the lack of written hand book. I am just old school and like having the book in my hand. Will probably have to print it off at some point

latest firmware installed

manufacturer and newegg offer extended plans. I would suggest it for this model, due to its earlier issues.

Latest Firmware installed from factory. Works flawlessly. replaced a tx sr 608 and much easier to navigate menus and listening modes. worth the upgrade from earlier onkyo at the right price point. There are 4 hdmi devices attached to this receiver, no...

runs warm give it room to breathe. Since there have been bad units,I advise testing all features on this item which is time consuming
