Onkyo TX-NR636 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver

Onkyo's $700 TX-NR636 is a forward-looking AV receiver that's loaded with features, including HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. How does it perform? Dennis Burger finds out.

So, thumbs up or thumbs down on the TX-NR636 7.2-channel network AV receiver? I say thumbs up. Way up. If the company had only included subwoofer correction in its new, proprietary AccuEQ system, I would climb a stepstool to get my thumbs a little...

The Best Receiver

We surveyed almost 1,000 users and spent 30 hours testing the top receivers with $35,000 equipment. The Onkyo TX-NR636 is the one we'd recommend for most people. It was subjectively and objectively the best-sounding of the bunch, and the only receiver...

Onkyo TX-NR636

Large-scale sound, Will go loud, Precise with sound placement, Well specified

Bass could be punchier and tighter, Lacks solidity, Dynamically soft

An impressively specified receiver, but its sound performance leaves us wanting

Can't beat it.

For the price point, you can't do any better. Great sound quality through my Paradigm speaker setup. More HDMI inputs than I could ever need...which is why I upgraded from my old Onkyo 800 series. Bluetooth works flawlessly with my Mac and iTunes. I...

Could use a little more power. I can max out the volume at some times. It's loud, but it could be a little more robust. My only complaint

Video Card went out around 7-8 months of use.

Sound is terrific, calibrator works great looks beautiful very strong the on-screen video guide is great the wifi works good if you're listening to Pandora it'll stop playing and lagging after a few hours of use without touching anything maybe sooner,...

After seven to eight months of ownership the video card went out. I have to pay around $50 for shipping to send my stereo away, the retail store video only can't offer me any help other than biting the bullet. Telling they'll give me a discounted price...

Great Receiver for the Price

I love this receiver. Bought it to replace an Onkyo Receiver that was 12 years old and making clicking noise out of the center speaker. Easy to use and sounds greats.

Great sound

My first receiver with atoms. Sound is amazing with Atmos discs even without using the upmixerwith the ceiling speakers and watching regular movies and tv with the ceiling speakers adds such a fullness to the sound

Excellent 4k/HDMI 2.0 AV receiver

I used this Onkyo Receiver as part of my home theater system with a Sony 4K tv, Sony Blueray, and Verizon FIOS box. It has plenty of HDMI inputs, supports 4K and HDMI 2.0, sounds amazing, easy to setup, and has wifi/bluetooth. At this price point, I...

Great surround system

I nearly went with another system, but decided that the reviews on this system were too good to pass up. The reviews didn't let me down. Clear, crisp sound and easy to set up and use system are what you'll find with this system.
