Onkyo TX-SR806 THX Ultra2 Plus 7.1 A/V Receiver

With the TX-SR806 Onkyo further pushes the bar of what can be done within a $1100 Reciever: THX Ultra2 Plus certification, 1080 line video processor, and the full suite of audio processing. Did they give anything up? Our Brian Florian investigates.

On the whole the 806 is a mixed bag when looked at as simply the next offering in a line of AVRs with a rich heritage. There is no question that there is some value in the new video processor, value which unfortunately is undermined by its less-than...

Onkyo TX-SR806 A/V Receiver

When I compare the Onkyo TX-SR806 receiver with last year's Onkyo crop, I see incremental but significant improvements. The most notable ones are licensed technologies from THX and Audyssey (more on them soon). But when I compare this product with the...

Onkyo TX-SR806 7.1 Channels

I hope this review can be of help to others. I guess I am a dinosaur, but my first concern with a receiver is the sound - after all, the main function of a receiver is the ability to reproduce the audio. Today, it seems as though a lot of emphasis is...

This unit worked great until June when it quit working. Dropped it off at the warranty service center that Onkyo recommended. The service center is great but Onkyo has had me on hold for parts for 2 months. The Warranty Service Center can't fix it...

Bougth this from Amazon to replace my old Pioneer Elite receiver. It is a great machine with THX, digital Dolby sound and 7.1 channel capabilities. After going thru the installation process, it seems to much simpler. The sound is fantastic.

Product Specifications

The TX-SR806 occupies a unique position in the Onkyo line-up. It is classed as a mid-range A/V receiver. But with its advanced capabilities and THX Ultra2 Plus certification, it's a worthy challenger for high-end status. Built with high-definition entertainment in mind, the TX-SR806 accommodates up to five HDMI sources that can handle both 1080p video and studio master-quality surround sound. That's more high-def sources than you'll find on any other Onkyo A/V receiver. If that weren't enough, onboard Faroudja DCDi Cinema scales all standard definition sources to 1080p for HDMI output, or to 1080i for component video output. Endowed with the amplification power and dependability expected from an Onkyo A/V receiver, the TX-SR806 stands out as a natural choice for high performance home theater.
