Ultimate AV: Onkyo TX-SR875 Surround Sound Receiver

But there are big changes in the air, beginning with the introduction of HDMI. A modern receiver without HDMI switching is now a dinosaur. And most, but not all, HDMI-equipped receivers can accept and process the multichannel digital audio that rides...

Clean, dynamic sound with excellent bass, Good video processing and transparent video switching, Onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio

Audio is slow to lock on after video link is established, Video circuits alter black and white levels, Automated Audyssey setup required some manual tweaking for acceptable results

Onkyo TX-SR875 review

Onkyo unleashes THX tech tank

Smooth and powerful ; HQV processing ; THX Ultra 2 certification

Restrained at low volumes ; No networking ; EQ system hit and miss

Covers its main remit very well indeed and delivers high-quality audio

Onkyo TX-SR875

The TX-SR875 requires a strong back to remove it from the box and emits enough heat to use as a spare radiator - so it's best positioned away from other equipment with plenty of ventilation. But, otherwise, it's difficult to find many flaws.

Future-proof features, outstanding video upscaling, exceptional sound quality with both multi-channel and stereo audio

Outdated design, runs very hot

Onkyo TX-SR876 A/V Receiver

Booming flat panel TV sales of the last few years combined with the increasing popularity of the Blu-ray disc format have sparked consumer interest in A/V receivers, among first-time buyers and those looking to upgrade an aging model. That's because in...

Outstanding

Sometimes simple is best. The TX-SR876 needs a simple A/B speaker button.

As always wonderfull workmanship. Sound quality far exceeds expectations

Heavy. Runs hot, needs good ventilation. Hard to program with Harmony remote

Amazing, Impressive

Interface menus were fine for me, they don't seem outdated, they're just not to the point that people are used to with the ease of computers and the internet (and iPods). Perhaps my firmware version updated the menu system? Would be nice if the next...

Video upscaling is pretty good, but it's hard to tell a dramatic difference. All video in to receiver is output to the two HDMI outs in my configuration, cuts down on wires that way ; Sound is amazing with my Klipsch KLF20 speakers in bi-amped...

Heavy receiver at over 50 pounds. Hot when running. All receivers get warm, but this baby can suck down 9.5 amps of juice and delivers a lot of that in the form of heat. Don't set anything directly on top of it. Make sure you have enough height to put...

Perfect

Superior sound. Great video. Perfect for most home theaters

Great receiver. Best cost per features and quality available anywhere. 2 extra zones (one powered). 4 HDMI inputs, 3 component video inputs. Audessy microphone setup is better than the microphone setup on my 2005 Pioneer Elite receiver

only the HDCP limitations of HDMI. HDCP makes it impossible to listen to my ipod while watching an HDMI connected device. I was concerned over Newegg's no warranty & no return policy, but the package arrived was not refurb or a gray market product. I...
