Pioneer VSX-822-K AV Receiver Review

The heart of all home-entertainment systems is the AV receiver and if you mess that up, you're sure to get frustrated once you hit 'Play'. This is why you should always take time in figuring out just want you want from your AV receiver, be it simple...

REMOTE CONTROL I am not a big fan of this controller. It has far too many little buttons spread all across the surface of it and takes a long time getting used to it. Its range is reasonable and I didn’t have too much of a problem with it. I guess if...

Pioneer SP-PK52FS 5.1 Speaker System and VSX-822-K A/V Receiver

Pioneer. Few brands in consumer electronics are as recognizable and respected. Pioneer has been and remains a leader in myriad aspects of audio and video. In this review, we take a look at their SP-PK52FS 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System and VSX-822-K...

Sounds great

Had to upgrade a dated home theater system. and this fit the bill. sounds great and has enough hdmi connections for all my gear.. very happy with this reciever

Does the basics, which is good.

Its a decent receiver, and I think this designed for the average consumer. Its not high-end, but it does what you need it to. It has mainly HDMI ports, though there is a couple composite jacks for legacy devices. If all you need is HDMI, then it...

Has the main audio formats you want ; Easy to setup (either manually or with included mic) ; Six HDMI inputs ; Airplay ; 3D pass-through

Cannot rename inputs ; Composite jacks don't get passed through HDMI to TV (a separate composite cable must be connected to the TV) ; No component inputs (but you may not need them) ; Poor 'network' menus ; No constant indicators for PCM or...

Great Deal on great unit

This was a $600 receiver when it came out a couple of years ago. I just need it for surround sound. I was using a 1980's stereo receiver before this. For a buck 50, how can you go wrong.

Low price ;) Has microphone driven speaker ; balancing and eq. Six hdmi inputs

Nothing really. I don't need a lot of special features. Maybe ; more expensive units have useful ones

Pretty Good

If you buy this, get a Harmony 650 or better at the same time and use the Pioneer remote to take your frustrations on.

Price was good at sale price. Has all of the bells and whistles I need

Documentation was lousy. I had to buy a different remote to get things set up. I almost sent it back

1080p... maybe not so much.

RMA is inbound, I had hoped this would be able to replace a 15 year old receiver that is just barely holding on. One positive of writing this review is that I learned NewEgg dropped the price by ten dollars, and are throwing in a surge protector.

Seems like a good receiver for the price, plays music and Airplay works easily enough. It sounds nice, and the formats supported are pretty comprehensive. Two eggs for that

I couldn't get the device to pass through 1080p/60 Hz HDMI. It would result in a black screen or an erroneous output. I tried different cables, HDMI sources, etc. Finally found that 1080i or 1080p/24 seemed to work well enough. I called Pioneer's...

Great Choice for one model rev back

I realize buying a refurb is a bit of a risk, however at the price paid, I can afford to get it wrong if I got a lemon. Chances are good it will be around for years to come.

Used an email coupon to pick this up for $159 and have been very satisfied with the choice. I didn't want to put a lot of $'s into a new sound system and this receiver gave me everything I wanted for the right price, plus the Pioneer heritage. I...

The on-screen (TV) menus to select on-line media resources are pretty slow and searching is tricky. Much better to use the Android control app to select networked media

Had to return

Had to return since it had some motion blur While watching the US Open, I noticed that the ball had significant blur. I moved the hdmi cable from the receiver straight to the tv and it disappeared

Has really good options for the price

Motion blur

Very Capable, Feature-Packed Receiver

Bought the refurb receiver, and paired it up with an inexpensive but decent enough 5.1 speaker system and ended up with a serious system for less than $300 all-in. Not an audiophile setup by any stretch, but a very capable set that blows any $500 HTIB...

Does exactly what I need it to -- automatically decodes all the necessary surround formats and delivers excellent sound to my speakers with more than ample volume and great clarity. Great for blasting the family room when watching an action movie for a...

The on-screen user interface is clunky and old fashioned, and the throwaway remote is barely good enough for the reciever functions, and while technically a universal remote, I couldn't get it to work with my TV. You'll definitely want to get a decent...
