The 500 costs as much as the older Slingbox Pro-HD, but doesn't do much more, save for streaming over WiFi. Most users would be fine with the cheaper Slingbox 350 instead.

"Buyer Beware!! Slingbox Software updates are a scam!"

 

If you are considering buying a Slingbox PLEASE do your research before you buy!! A good place to start is slingbox's own answer forums (http://answers.slingbox.com/index.jspa ). Search for "firmware update" or "software update" and you'll find dozens...

Allows place shifting for the period of time the warranty lasts.

Slingbox has a habit of sending out software updates after the product is out of warranty which causes the product to stop working. Owners are then forced to either pay $29.95 for tech support or embrace their newest paperweight.

"Invades your privacy!"

 

I regret purchasing the product.

No hardware complaints.

They keep tabs on way too much personal data. The mobile app even keeps track of all the phone calls you make. This is totally unnecessary for this app to work. The web app keeps track of the web sites you visit as well as much other data.

It Works. Buy this Product.

 

I'm amazed with this product. It is so nice to watch my cable HD programming on my iphone. I watch while in the backyard, at work and on the town. I love it when you're on vacation and can still watch your cable programming instead of the limited shows...

Not just another cool gadget

 

First of all, DO NOT buy the 500 model if all you are after is HD. The single HDMI cable is a nice concept but you will also have to use the composite cables for copyrighted content like HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc. There goes the single cable idea…...

Great to be able to access my home dvr recordings while away for winter

Difficulty streaming, particularly annoying when trying to use remote to change channels or view recorded stuff
