Sony Internet Player With Google TV (NSZ-GS7)

Two years in and Google TV is still trying to find its footing in an entertainment ecosystem that already offers simple, easy-to-set-up access to online services, either through connected HDTVs and Blu-ray players or dedicated media hubs like the Roku...

Well-designed remote. Plenty of functionality. Lots of online services and apps

Not as polished or intuitive as other media hubs. Finding good apps requires combing through many not-so-great ones

The Sony Internet Player With Google TV (NSZ-GS7) is one of the better ways to get Google TV on your HDTV, even if the platform itself still suffers from a lack of polish.

Two years after the disastrous Logitech Revue, Google returns for another stab at internet TV, this time partnering with Sony on a standalone box. We can say one thing for sure: With a sleek remote, zippy processor, and fetching (for a streaming...

One of the best QWERTY remotes for the HT ever ; Noticeably faster than older Google TVs ; HDMI-CEC, 3D and 24p output

Price is steep compared to other streamers ; Google TV ecosystem is still unproven

The NSZ-GS7 is probably the best way add the Google TV experience to your existing TV, but Google still has a way to go before it deserves to be a fixture in most living rooms.

Google TV had a second coming-out party at CES 2012, where a number of manufacturers introduced new features for the television-based operating system, new devices running it, and other big plans. Eric Schmidt, in a fit of what turned out to be...

Faster, more responsive interface ; Hardware is simple and ports are well placed ; Awesome universal search functionality

Google TV needs more content ; App selection is lacking ; Device gets really hot

When does 'it has potential' turn into 'it's not good enough?'

Can the Sony's first Google TV box app the ante?

Unique Google TV platform ; Chrome browser supports Flash video ; Handy HDMI switching ; Excellent YouTube app ; Live thumbnail while browsing

Limited Google Play apps ; Complex remote ; Expensive

Google TV potentially compelling, but even in the world of regular firmware updates and new apps, is that enough? It's should fetch video from disparate websites and present it in a source-neutral way. Chrome doesn't do that, and nor does a motley...

Sony NSZ-GS7 Google TV Internet Player

Sony is out to revolutionise your TV with its first Google TV add-on box. Or maybe not.

YouTube app is gorgeous ; Streaming quality is good ; Remote control keyboard is responsive

Nowhere near enough dedicated apps ; Extensive reliance on open internet doesn't make for a comfortable user experience ; Current firmware is buggy

It’s also worth adding here that we opted not to make the Google TV remote capable of operating our TV and AV receiver, even though the option for this is there. Why? Because frankly using the remote just for doing all the Google TV stuff is...
