Sony STR-DN1020

Sony AV receivers can be unpredictable, going from best in class one year to mediocre the next. The STR-DN1020 is Sony's midrange model for 2011, and it's underwhelming. It has fewer HDMI inputs than all of its competitors, it lacks the built-in...

The Sony STR-DN1020 has built-in networking, allowing it to stream Slacker and Internet radio, along with digital music on your home network, over DLNA. It's also the only AV receiver in this price range to include an external iPod dock

All competing receivers offer more HDMI inputs. The STR-DN1020 also has fewer streaming-media services than competitors and lacks built-in AirPlay, and its subpar graphical user interface makes its networking features less attractive. We also found its...

The Sony STR-DN1020 isn't a bad AV receiver, but it lags behind its competitors in just about every attribute we consider important.

Sony STR-DN1020 Networked Receiver First Look

It's a race people. In case you hadn't noticed. It's always the way that when a manufacturer comes out with a new feature, the others play catchup. One adds two more channels of amplification, the next year everyone has the same. More HDMI inputs?...

The real story here, of course, is the price. At $500 is has considerably better streaming than the Onkyo. That is if you use Slacker or vTuner. If not, it has the same. The fact is that Sony receivers seem to go on immediate and permanent sale as soon...

Sony STR-DN1020 A/V Receiver

There are two hard-wired options for integrating content from an iPod or iPhone into a receiver-based home theater system. The A/V receiver might have a Made for iPod–compatible USB jack, allowing you to plug the device right into the front or back...

"a good unit"

I find this amp does exactly what I require. Good fidelity when using quality input material and ample volume using suitable speakers. I couldn't justify spending more money on a more expensive amplifier, I am happy with my purchase

Bravia sync is great. Sound is excellent quality with heaps of power. Plenty of volume through my 200W B & W speakers. It plays 24 bit FLAC files from my computer, and connectivity with mu Blu ray and PVR with HDMI is good.Has more features than Iuse

GUI is a bit lean.

Terrible under-powered noisy amp with 1990's usability

Great amp if you are deaf

I have a Sony DA777ES that I love but it is missing all the new features like HDMI and support for more advanced audio encoding. I went to the store and again asked for the best sony amp they had. I got this piece of junk. The GUI was terrible, the sound

Very Satisfied

After ten years or so with a previous Sony AV receiver, I decided to upgrade to a unit primarily for switching the HDMI signals and higher quality video output. The unit has so much functionality that it takes time to learn to use it all for other than...
