Product Specifications

Today's multi-channel theater sound systems bring an unprecedented level of power, realism, and excitement to the film soundtracks you experience in movie theaters. And now, advancements in decoding technology have brought sophisticated multi-channel movie sound reproduction into the home. Technics home theater receivers offer a built-in Dolby Digital/ DTS decoder, high output power, and class H+ amp circuitry - all features you'll find particularly exciting for high-performance playback on both movies and your favorite music. Digital formats such as CDs, DVDs and laserdiscs often utilize Dolby Digital or DTS encoding systems. These systems are also digital, so each of the five discrete main sound channels (front left, center, front right, surround right, surround left) can cover the entire frequency spectrum from 20Hz to 20kHz. A separate low frequency effects (LFE) channel is devoted to bass effects, bringing the total to six channels (although this arrangement is often referred to as "5.1 channel surround sound".) In order to enjoy the 5.1 channel digital soundtrack encoded on a DVD or laserdisc, you will need a decoder that converts the digital signals to 6 channels of analog audio. The SA-DX940 comes with a built-in decoder, which converts the digital signals to analog audio and sends them to your receiver and speakers. You'll enjoy a remarkably natural sense of ambience and dynamic realism. In order to meet the demands of Dolby Digital/DTS, Technics home theater receivers provide each of the five main channels with the same 100W high power. This Technics Times 5 concept gives your system a total of 500W of class H+ amplifier output, for amazing sound quality that helps guard against clipping distortion (which occurs when a momentary volume peak requires more power than an amp can deliver.) You can also connect a powered subwoofer, for awesome, fully discrete 6-channel stereo sound. Technics' class H+ amp circuitry minimizes heat generation, for maximum efficiency. The company has improved its dynamic headroom (an indicator of reserve power) to an impressive 2dB - significantly more than the 1.2dB available on previous receiver amps. So reserve power is about 1.5 times that of rated power. This helps guard against clipping distortion. A universal Remote Control ready for TVs, VCRs and Technics DVD player is included.
