Onkyo TX-NR709 7.2 Channel Networked THX Receiver First Look

that we talked about not nine months ago. That's right, back in July we were touting the virtues of the NR708 and here we are doing it again. Plus, the price points haven't changed. So, new receiver, more features and same price point with a nine month...

We're shocked at how much Onkyo is giving you in the sub $900 TX-NR709. We expect 3D and many of the features but not all of them. We can honestly only count less than a handful features that aren't included in this receiver. 3D, ARC, DSX PLIIz, MultEQ...

Easy to set up. The on-screen programming is great.

Take your time (which I didn't for the first purchase) and buy what you need and want. Spend the extra money the first time. PS: Anyone want a nearly new Pioneer?

Replaced a rather new Pioneer VSX 820. This is more powerful, has many more features (8 HDMI inputs for example) and produces noticeably better sound. The Pioneer wasn't bad but this Onkyo is great! And, yes it was more money, and I know the comparison is

Nothing except it would be nice if it were made in the USA

Great, when it works....

I purchased this product specifically for the 2 HDMI outputs. I have a flatscreen & projector, and this product filled the right needs for the right price. When the 709 is working, it's fantastic. Audio output to my bi-amped fronts is great for...

Horrible

I had 2 different units from Amazon on this one... Both had the HDMI burn out within 3 months of purchase. Onkyo said I can pay to have it fixed at their leisure when I ship it from NJ to CA. Fortunately, Amazon was understanding of my issue and gave...

HDMI ports are of poor quality

Needing to replace an ONKYO 7.1 surround system because of inoperable HDMI ports, I was going to buy a pioneer until someone convinced me to buy the TX-NR709. I wish I had not purchased it. To be fair, the sound is awesome and my receiver did work for...

Just another review

Ordered online, sent to UPS store, drove across the border from Canada to pick it up... NP. Item works, no issues, sounds great for classical, rock, jazz/folk. (Canadian Brass - Ave Verum, Queen - BR, and Nora Jones - Don't Know Why) Worst thing I can...

Fantastic

Tips for awesome sound quality: - Measure out your speaker setup. The center of the listening area should be your head. - Run a full calibration with the included Audyssey mic. Place the mic realistically. Audyssey XT does an amazing job at...

I've had this receiver for over a year. I haven't had a single regret. I think this receiver could compete with a lot of $1000 range receivers in terms of features and sound quality.Once you get a good understanding of the available features and...

Not the loudest A/V receiver you'll hear

Media receiver

The bang for the buck is un-equaled in home theater from what I can find. This unit is amazing and when combined with a set of Hsu speakers one would be hard-pressed to exceed this arrangement for another $20,000. Add a Harmony One remote, Apple TV and...
