Onkyo TX-NR709 7.2 Channel Networked THX Receiver First Look

that we talked about not nine months ago. That's right, back in July we were touting the virtues of the NR708 and here we are doing it again. Plus, the price points haven't changed. So, new receiver, more features and same price point with a nine month...

We're shocked at how much Onkyo is giving you in the sub $900 TX-NR709. We expect 3D and many of the features but not all of them. We can honestly only count less than a handful features that aren't included in this receiver. 3D, ARC, DSX PLIIz, MultEQ...

Easy to set up. The on-screen programming is great.

Take your time (which I didn't for the first purchase) and buy what you need and want. Spend the extra money the first time. PS: Anyone want a nearly new Pioneer?

Replaced a rather new Pioneer VSX 820. This is more powerful, has many more features (8 HDMI inputs for example) and produces noticeably better sound. The Pioneer wasn't bad but this Onkyo is great! And, yes it was more money, and I know the comparison is

Nothing except it would be nice if it were made in the USA

Fantastic

Tips for awesome sound quality: - Measure out your speaker setup. The center of the listening area should be your head. - Run a full calibration with the included Audyssey mic. Place the mic realistically. Audyssey XT does an amazing job at...

I've had this receiver for over a year. I haven't had a single regret. I think this receiver could compete with a lot of $1000 range receivers in terms of features and sound quality.Once you get a good understanding of the available features and...

Not the loudest A/V receiver you'll hear

Excellent...... while it was working!

For the first week the receiver was excellent. Started noticing a speaker popping noise coming from the right front. Then the noise would variate through the front speakers. Sent back to Newegg for a replacement. Received the new one and installed it...

Good sound, THX Certified, lots of features for the price compared to competing brands

Had to do firmware update right out of the box

Great value for a midrange receiver

I bought this receiver as an upgrade for my older TX-SR603 to take advantage of HDMI outputs and network capabilities. So far the unit has not disappointed. The only negative comment is that none of the info in product descriptions clarify the need for...

Follow-up

Following up on my previous post: Downloaded and installed the firmware upgrade without a hitch. Re-ran the speaker calibration system and it went through with no malfunctions. Love the system. I could use some deeper bass, but I don't know if that's...

Great system. Good sound. No setbacks or malfunctions yet

Nothing to speak of

So far So good.

Other than that, the system works great so far. I got it Wednesday evening, and this is Friday morning, so I'm still going to go through more options and see how good I can get the surround sound to sound. But so far, I'm very impressed.

Easy set up. Good sound. Inexpensive WiFi dongle. Easy DLNA setup. I opened it up as soon as I got home from work. Read through the CD Instruction manual, and set it up in line with the instructions. Cool as a breeze and no problem. I bought the option...

Small problem with speaker calibration. I ran the Full calibration program, which was also easy. It went off without a hitch, until it got to my Surround Back speakers. It went to Surround Back right, and sounded fine. Then, while the Receiver was...
