Yamaha A-S2000 Integrated amplifier 2-Channel

This Yamaha is the latest in a long succession of amplifiers which have powered our system, the upgrading sickness shows only signs of temporary remissions but never seems totally cured. The A-S2000 was purchased as a replacement for an Arcam A85/P85...

Yamaha A-S2000 Integrated amplifier 2-Channel

One of the best overall performers in this price range.

Yamaha A-S2000 Integrated amplifier 2-Channel

This integrated amplifier is awesome. I've auditioned the A-S2000 in a store with JMLab Electra 1028 Be and Arcam CD37. I was completely seduced by the overall sound. I can't find weakness. This amplifier handle easily demanding speaker that needs...

Yamaha A-S2000

Yamaha's A-S2000 dedicated amplifier is a jack of all trades, with balanced and unbalanced inputs, A/B speaker outputs as well as a dedicated headphon...

Beautiful retro styling, powerful, versatile, dedicated headphone amp

Heavy enough to destroy an A/V rack (but that's a good thing, right?)

Exacting build quality and retro styling make the A-S2000 feel like a vintage model from the 1970s. Everything internal is nice and modern, however, resulting in a clean analytical sound that's able to be pushed to incredibly (and we mean incredibly)...

Yamaha S2000 CD Player/Amp review

Yamaha's contribution to the world of high fidelity has been distinctive, sometimes even distinguished, but also more than a touch patchy, with long barren spells punctuating the infrequent highlights. The latter include true world beaters such as the...

Sleek design ; Imressive build quality ; Good value for money ; Decent feature set

CD erformance can be a bit lacklustre

Yamaha A-S2000

Whilst the CD-S2000 player works well playing CDs, it is much better with SACD

Sleek design ; Impressive build quality ; Good value for money ; Decent feature set

CD performance can be a bit lacklustre

Consequences of the design are that the volume control has virtually zero tracking error (even at very low volume levels) and the headphone amplifier is also fully isolated and not potted down from the main output

Yamaha A-S2000

A big, powerful, attractive amp, but the overly relaxed attitude puts it behind similarly priced rivals

Lovely design and build ; Tone and balance controls ; Smooth, rich sound

An overly relaxed sound that never really engages the listener

The Yamaha A-S2000 has a lot of things going for it, but an exciting sound is not one of them. As much as we love the look and feel of the machine, there are more entertaining amps for the money.

Yamaha A-S2000 Integrated Amplifier

The A-S2000 puts Yamaha squarely back into high-end audio territory.

Yamaha is highly regarded in a great many diverse fields— and you can’t get more diverse than building both high-performance motorcycles and concert grand pianos!—and when it comes to electronics, it certainly builds some of the most highly-regarded AV...

Product Specifications

Many music friends look back wistfully to the stereo era when amplifiers had only two channels and listening to records was as much a part of the evening ritual as a glass of red wine and a good book. The A-S2000 amplifier gives you back this experience. Just touching the solid handles brings back memories of the Yamaha legends of the seventies. The aluminum front and wood-finished sides reflect the quality of workmanship that made good Hi-Fi sets the status symbol of a whole generation. But when it comes down to the interior of this high-quality housing, Yamaha has gone off in a completely new direction, a revolutionary circuitry concept with completely balanced alignment from the input until just before the loudspeaker clamps exploits analog amplifier technology to the full. Professional recording studios have long been providing interference free sound by using balanced transmission, the A-S2000 gives it a signal-to-noise ratio of 98 dB. Because conventional volume and tone controls do not function accurately enough in such a finely bal-anced environment, the A-S2000 uses a total of three circuits per channel. The required precision in the signal path can only be achieved in this way. Only components of the highest quality are used, these include powerful trans-formers, extra heavy feet and selected blocking capacitors with 24,000 microfarad each. In addition, the use of independent amplifier units for the right and left channel ensure maximum channel separation.
