Harmony 880 Universal Remote Control Reviewed

Featuring a color LCD screen, backlit buttons, and easy to use computer software, the Harmony 880 universal remote has lots to offer those looking to simplify their home theaters. 15 devices are controllable. Ken Taraszka takes a look for...

The Harmony 880's exceptional user interface is worth the cost of admission ; Rechargeable battery and dock included ; Capable of controlling 15 different components ; Capable of multiple start-up macros ; Famous Harmony Help button to walk you through...

No RF capability, so line of sight is necessary ; Lacks coolness factor of a touch screen

The incredible flexibility and large number of hard buttons and optional additional buttons on the LCD display make this remote capable of controlling very large and complicated systems with ease. The lack of RF support will require line of sight for...

Do Not, I Repeat DO NOT buy this item

Do Not, I Repeat DO NOT buy this item

Amazon wouldn't let me give this s zero-star rating. If I could rate it lower than a one, I would. Purchased this item last December. I should have known that there would be major problems when I read that it ONLY came with a 90-day warranty. Now I...

Great to have to free some space

Great to have to free some space

This is the first Harmony Remote I purchased. Very happy with. Easy configure for computer users. I can control all my devices with one remote. Includes, TV, Blu-Ray disc player, DVD player, Media Player, AV Receiver etc. I have replaced around 5...

Should Be Better

Should Be Better

I purchased my Harmony 880 PRO in January 2010 as an upgrade replacement for a 4 year old model. So I was not unfamiliar with the prodcut. The buttons on my 880 Pro and the unit's case make it seem cheaply made; it's just the way the buttoms feel to...

Usable, but not worth it

I had high expectations as this was my first "smart universal" remote, but it disappoints in almost every aspect. It is a remote that is more trouble than it is worth. I bought it on sale for $70, but regret the purchase.

It looks nice and is light weight. Comes with rechargeable batteries and docking station. Solid build quality. Programmable activities. Glow in the dark back lighting

The channel controls are on the bottom half of the controller making the remote uncomfortable to use with only one hand. Two hands are always required to properly operate the remote. Navigating through the menus on the remote is poor. I find myself...

I'd miss my Harmonies if they went away

I'd miss my Harmonies if they went away

The main feature of Harmony 880 is its ability to set up 'activities' which allow you to seamlessly control all the devices required to do things such as watching TV, listening to music or watching a DVD movie. The only 'major' issue I've ever had...

Problems

The support responded ok except I don't think tissue paper is a very good fix. The proper sized battery would have helped.

Easy to program. Was able to handle all my equipment with the exception of a WII

Buttons on metal rim stopped working. Sound up and channel down stopped working even after reprogramming. Charging cradle is designed poorly. The contacts don't make unless you press down and still may open. The battery was loose in unit and I had to...

Best remote I've ever owned

I'm really not sure why everyone's been giving it such average reviews, it's honestly a very good remote. I suppose if it doesn't charge, it's useless, but I've owned mine for about 2.5 years now and have had zero issues. I even bought a 2nd one for my...

I can't say enough pro's for this remote. The activities function has changed my life! It works with every component I had, even my media PC. The setup program is incredibly easy and the remote is pretty self explanatory after a few days of use ; I...

The only con is there is an issue with the remote charging on the cradle. Honestly, all you have to do is wiggle so it seats correctly, taking all of like 2 sec. I didn't drop the rating for it since it hasn't even been an issue for me. I just wanted...

The remote I've been waiting for.

The tilt sensor for sleeping/waking the screen is a blessing and a curse. The feature can be turned off if desired.

I have been through at least 9 universal remotes. Not because they broke, but because there was always some feature missing. This remote finally does everything I need an infrared remote to do ; The separation of "devices" and "activities" was...

The charging cradle is a little too fussy. The remote often doesn't fall into the charging position. But if I pay attention it works fine
