Home Theater Heaven

Buying components and building a sweet home theater is just the first step. The hard part is taking control of it. And no, it shouldn't take three remotes and a degree in electrical engineering to watch a DVD. The good news is, Logitech's Harmony 890...

Programming software is easy to use. Configuring the remote takes about an hour, not days. Remote comes with charger and wireless extender. Has a Help button to fix occasional problems.

Fast-forward, play, and rewind buttons could be better placed. Wireless extender must be connected to your PC during programming. Codes occasionally do not get sent.

If you're looking for a universal remote to tame all your unruly home-theater devices, Logitech's Harmony 890 is one killer option.

what's really great about this product is its basic concept. instead of being designed just to control a particular piece of equipment, harmony remotes are based on the premise that you want to perform a specific task. logitech labels these...

Review: Logitech Harmony 890 Universal Remote

DVRs, audio receivers, massive LCD displays, spent Mountain Dew containers. Your living room is a chaotic mess of electronic components and soft drink bottles. How...

LCD screen shows every function of the remotes it replaces. Converts IR signal to RF eliminating line-of-sight issues. Remote can be programmed via computer and with your existing remotes. Charging base keeps the battery fresh. Compatible with Z-wave...

Can be laggy, making fine adjustments in volume difficult. RF receiver uses four sticky IR emitters, limiting number and placement of hidden equipment unless additional RF extenders are purchased

Logitech Harmony 890 review

main content

Logitech's first universal learning remote to incorporate both IR (infrared) and RF (radio frequency) wireless operation includes a rechargeable battery and docking station, an RF base station, a DVR-friendly button layout and backlit keys. As with...

Compared to the IR-only 880, the Logitech Harmony 890 is pricey. Its Web interface may intimidate nontechie users, and it lacks the Wi-Fi connectivity that's beginning to appear on some rival high-end remotes.

While it isn't perfect, the Logitech Harmony 890 should be near the top of your list if you're in the market for a sub-$400 RF remote that can operate equipment that's hidden behind cabinets or closet doors.

Logitech Harmony 890 Advanced Universal Remote Review

It seems like my home theater spawns remotes like Gremlins fed after midnight. Every time I sit down it seems I find another remote and its getting to the point that my wife is going to snap. She seems to always grab the wrong remote for whatever it is...

Not all it's cracked up to be

Apparently I pressed the touch screen too hard and it cracked. Think about that: it's a touch screen, and you have to press it softly. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. So now I can't read anything on my screen. What kind of shoddy material is...

Terrible quality

Waiting on the response from tech support for 4 business days now.

Is great when works (was able to program CC on CC off function on my DVR to work with one button press). Worked great for my partner who is technology illiterate and could not handle a setup of a modern entertainment system. Charger is a +. Survived...

Must be positioned into the charging cradle with an aide of a high-precision measuring instruments, otherwise charging contacts won't align. Tech support is very limited. Hardware drivers are wonky - the remote is not always recognized by the PC or...

Great Remote

If you don't care for the RF ability (with the wireless extender), don't bother getting this remote - go with one of the cheaper logitechs. They all have exactly the same buttons and do the exact same thing. You'll only get plain text on the screen...

This is such a great remote I don't know where to begin. I mean, any universal remote can control all your devices - but they always end up with very odd layouts, or mislabeled buttons because they can't match your original remotes. This one has a...

The way the power is controlled for the devices gets a bit annoying. For normal use its fine - but with my setup I have the cable box's audio hooked up to both the TV and stereo - the TV sound is good enough for watching most shows but the surround...
