I purchased this scanner to replace my old mustek 600 EP parallel port scanner and I made a few mistakes in buying scanners prior to this one too. You'd have to read my adventure with the Umax 3450 To understand how much frustration I went to for...

Hardware Problems at startup

 

If you would like a simple staight-forward scanner then this Acer640BU is fine, especially for the price which is under $100.
