Great little scanner

Read reviews etc out there on many scanners. So that directed me in the first place. Thanks everyone for all reviews good and bad. For me I'm mainly wanting this to copy Dad's million old slides. These I was worried maybe affected by damp conditions...

Great!

I really wish I got more use out of this, just didn't use it enough to say it was efficient for me to have but the use I did get out of it was incredible in the fact that the negatives were all scanned without any problems. Let's just hope whoever buys...

Very pleased

Was nervous about buying a scanner, especially as reviews are mixed. However, am really pleased with the Agfa DuoScan although to date have only scanned 35mm slides. It's very, very easy to use. Be prepared to be patient, dusting and placing each one...

Great easy to use product

I bought this digitise some old and poorly kept slides and negatives in various formats. Upon receiving the product I set about scanning - getting rid of any dust from the slides/negatives using 'puffer brush'. I was extremely pleased with the quality...

See also Veho

This scanner is identical to the one marketed by Veho (Smartfix VFS-008), also available from Amazon at a much lower price.

The saviour of Family History

Like many people in their mid seventies most of my family history prior to the digitall age is contained in boxes and boxes of 35mm slides. These are difficult to view, particularly to the younger generation, used to instant digital access, and...

not the best but it works

Yeah... this scanner isn't the best. But it's cheap and it's fast and it works. I was thinking of returning it but I am happy enough with the files it spits out. You have to make sure the film is flat though because it can curve a bit causing...

Great for 35mm

This is my first negative scanner and I am extremely pleased with the results, even though my films are around 25 years old the results have been impressive and it is quick and easy to use. Far better than using a flatbed scanner. My only...

Product Specifications

The new DuoScan HiD provides high quality color consistency, 1000 x 2000 ppi optical scanning resolution, and exceptional speed. DuoScan HiD's new 14-bit color depth is very advanced, delivering an enormous amount of image information, due to its dynamic range of 3.7 D. This means exceptional color performance; it captures more colors, even those difficult dark reds and blues, as well as details in the shadows and highlights of any image you scan. The DuoScan HiD scanner uses an 8000 element color CCD and offers a resolution of 1000 ppi over an 8" width and 2000 ppi in the vertical direction. You can enlarge images up to about 600%. Specially-designed 14-bit components result in a scanner with a dynamic range of 3.7 D. TwinPlate scanning technology offers unique glass-less transparency scanning - the transparency tray is a completely independent scan bed. Transparent originals are scanned using the tray that slides in and out of the scanner. The glass-plate in the transparency tray can be exchanged for one of the batch slide holders available for different original sizes. Guaranteeing focus control, the batch slide holder perfectly positions the original. Glass-less transparency scanning means a substantial quality increase since scanning transparencies requires a wider dynamic range to capture an accurate image. Additionally, the transparency bed can be set up while the reflective bed is scanning and vice versa. The top cover of the DuoScan HiD is adjustable to allow easier scanning of bulky originals such as books or magazines. The intuitive, easy-to-use FotoLook software has been updated. FotoLook 3.5 processes image information behind the scene, so that 95% of your scans will be right the first time. New, innovative features are incorporated in FotoLook 3.5 such as improved USM sharpening, black and white point settings for the PC version, more batch scanning functionality, higher image quality, and LAB support. Using default or customized settings, the interactive mode allows immediate adjustments to a preview scan for complete scanning control. Production mode is tailored to workflows where automation is essential. A combination of the two modes is the ultimate in speed and accuracy. Using the FotoLook batch scanning feature, you can set the parameters and position for various images. You can opt to execute the batch immediately or save it for later. Either way, the DuoScan HiD automatically scans the batch switching between the reflective and transparency areas, as required. With improvements in the batch scanning feature, FotoLook 3.5 offers more control with a batch log and a repeat function, making it possible to rescan a batch or even certain images. An important piece of the imaging puzzle is color management. Agfa's color management solution, ColorTune, is fully integrated within FotoLook 3.5. ColorTune provides a large number of scanner, monitor and printer profiles. To create customized scanner profiles, you can use the IT8 color test charts supplied with Agfa's ColorTune to characterize your DuoScan HiD.
