Canon CanoScan 8600F (4 mice)

By James Galbraith (macworld.com)

Although it was a little slow to warm up, and its photo scans were a touch dark, the CanoScan 8600F proved to be a very good all-around scanner and should definitely be considered if you are looking for a high-quality photo and document scanner.

Built-in transparency adapter; speedy scans; very good scan quality.

Slow to warm up; photo scans a bit dark.

Canon CanoScan 8600F

By M. David Stone (pcmag.com)

The Canon CanoScan 8600F offers reasonably high-quality photo and film scans in a relatively inexpensive unit.

Scans slides and strips of film. Comes with optical character recognition (OCR) and document-management software.

Scans only four slides at a time. Tends to lose detail in bright areas.

The Canon CanoScan 8600F delivers reasonable-quality scans for photographic prints and film—both slides and negatives. Its film-scanning features are limited, but appropriate for the price.

Great Upgrade

By Mt27 (newegg.com)

I had an older canon scanner that cost less than half as much as this one at the time (3 years ago).

If I had to name a fault, and it may be me, but the film scanning seems a little out of focus/blurry to me-it may be the original film was out of focus-so I can't be sure at this point.

Exceptional Scanner Value

By nsheldon (epinions.com)

I was looking through an old bag of 35 mm photo sets and the though came to me that I should archive these old family photos. How best to do this? Most of the photo envelopes had all the original 35 mm print film negatives. Some only had the ...

Good image quality. Lots of included software. Lots of advanced options. Relatively fast.

Included software for Mac out of date. CCD not quite 48-bit, but close.
