Canon CanoScan 8800F

The Canon CanoScan 8800F flatbed scanner works well on both prints and film.

High-quality scans, particularly for prints. Backlight correction feature. LED light source eliminates warm-up time.

Scratch removal feature has little to no effect. Scans only four slides at a time.

In the niche category of flatbed scanner that scans film and prints, the Canon CanoScan 8800F delivers high quality with impressive consistency.

CanoScan 8800F -- Simple Scanning

Canon's CanoScan 8800F belongs to a new class of scanner designed to streamline what is often an arduous task into a rewarding one. We recently reviewed the Epson V600, which directly competes with the CanoScan 8800F in this class.

While the CanoScan 8800F proved to be a competent machine, we had to ask how it was more competent than a multifunction device like the Canon MP980 or MP990 and how it compared to more expensive scanners like the Epson V700 or Microtek M1.

Canon CanoScan 8800F Review

Canon CanoScan 8800F reviewed by ConsumerSearch, which notes pros and cons, along with reviews and ratings for the Canon CanoScan 8800F and comparisons to other Scanners

Easy to use and fast; Produces high-quality scans overall; Good software bundle; Includes transparency and slide adapters

Slow slide scans; Some scans appear slightly overexposed

Not flexible, in my opinion it is not user friendly.

I am your "Joe average" when it comes to computers. I found the Photo shop Elements 5, that Canon obliges me to use, difficult and time consuming to work with. Nor did I find any real benefit over the results I get from my simpler, faster, more...

It looks nice

Will not work with Picasa. It allows you to load a "read only" file

Canon 8800F Tricks and Tips with Stephen Paul West

I've been using this scanner doing massive amounts of projects (including slides back to the 1930s). One clarification that needs to be made is the software that launches with the buttons on the front is only rudimentary. It's for speed. It's the...

There is no warm up time on the lamp. I've been using this for about 4 months now and I've scanned thousands of slides and negatives without a hitch ; You can watch my tricks and tips for the 8800F at ;

I don't like the B&W setting for line art. I like to scan it in as a color.jpg as I get more detail from the inking. However, my usages is rather demanding

Good hardware; poor software for Mac OSX 10.6

As hardware, the scanner is fine (but noisy); the problem is software. What came with the scanner simply would not install completely or useably. After a lengthy internet search I found some directions and after putting f file in the correct location...

Once the software issues (ArcSoft is all I've gotten installed) are resolved the scanner works well

Outdated software which would not work with Mac OSX 10.6 (ArcSoft PhotoStudio 4 instead of 6, PhotoShop 5 instead of 8, OCR software which would not install, registration sent to a non-existent web page, no apparent webpage for help resolving issues

Canon Scan 8800F Flatbed Scanner

I Love this scanner, FAST, great scans, Very well built unit. Includes film adaptors, I currently am still unable to install some of the supplied software: Omni page OCR that comes with the scanner does not want to install on my Windows Vista machine....

EASY Install for base drivers, click and scan ease, includes adaptors for film

Omni Page OCR software included with the scanner is not as easy to install for some reason

Great for Film Scanning

I purchase the 8800F primarily to scan medium format film. But 35mm film scans are better than my Nikon Coolscan IV. I use the scanner principally for 48 bit color scans from Fuji Astia exposed with a Rolleiflex MX f/3.5 Tessar. It's a camera from the...

35mn and 6X6 Film Scanning is great

No cons noted

Fast & easy to install but running software can slow it

Program installed with no problem using Vista. USB cord could be longer. For multiple scans it would be better if the program returned you to where you last made a save so you don't have to search it down every time. There is 1 scanto file prgram that...

Scanning newspaper articles using the desktop navigator scan / import location is very handy. Just throw the paper on scanner and it will automatically straighten and upright it ; Crop tool is fast. Choice of format PDF or other to save in

For naming a file to save you are limited to just 32 characters & it is not visible as to when you get to that maximum ; Program makes you save your file into a new dated file folder ; To avoid it, you have to ucheck the option every time

Canon Scan 8800F Flatbed Scanner

For scanning photos and negatives, this is a great scanner - it has great quality, very fast scans, and almost no startup time, as it uses white LED. The included Photoshop Element alone can account for half its price. It is the latest version 5.0 for...

Fast startup (no delay), Fast scanning (it IS 7 sec at 300 dpi), great quality. Adobe Photoshop elements is a great Plus

Bad ergonomics - the buttons are on the lid, so cannot scan keeping lid open. Canon software is not great
