The great-looking scanner is a good buy for those folks with limited desktop space, but the scans aren't quite up to the standards set by its more expensive siblings.

too bad it's end of sales, as this does meet all the postive reviews posted here. was looking for a scanner for general home use and photo scanning... the reviews for the newer versions seemed to be not as glowing as those for the 500F. Got a chance...

Good scanner, lousy software

Canon has never released a Universal/Intel binary of their Mac OS X driver. The UI is cheap. If they fixed the software, this would be a great product.

The LiDE 500F combines breath-takingly slender design, outstanding functionality and an ultra-stylish finish. Drawing all the power it needs from a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection, the scanner's slim size and integrated stand allow you to operate your scanner in a variety of different ways - even upright.When the scanner is upright, a double hinge lid allows 'drop-in' scanning. With the stand folded away, open the lid completely out to scan oversize objects such as maps or posters. The lid also opens parallel to accept bulky items such as books.
