Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50

Epson has a long history of selling scanners, but they've been primarily photocentric flatbed scanners. The Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 ($499.99 direct) is different—neither photocentric nor flatbed. It's small enough to fit on a desktop to use as a...

Fast scans. Duplex scanning (both sides at once). ISIS and Twain drivers let it work with virtually any scan program

Scan utility is a little hard to learn how to customize. Business-card scanning is below par

The Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 scanner is impressive enough to earn high marks despite software that's best described as capable but a little hard to get started with.

Review: Epson Workforce Pro GT-S50 document scanner

With respectable scan times, decent scan speeds, and the best looking color scans we've seen from a document scanner, the Workforce Pro GT S50 is one of the better document scanners available.

The accompanying EpsonScan software is easy to use and should be familiar to anyone who’s used a flatbed Epson scanner in the past. Its not flashy, but its functional, and I’ll take that any day

Good scanner, lousy support from Epson

I purchased the Epson GT S50 scanner in November 2010. It worked well, but produced dark lines on the sides or bottoms of pages when scanning multiple pages. After calling Epson's customer support, they had me send it to their service center. The...

Fast duplex scanner ; Fast OCR ; Includes TWAIN and ISIS drivers

OCR is several years old ; Old software interface ; Lousy customer support

The paper feed simply does not work.

It will almost never feed multiple docs, I have to feed them in one by one and even that does not always work. They did cover a repair center drop off, but 100 sheets after I got it back it was back to it's old ways. It just is not worth messing with...

If it won't properly feed the paper I can think of no 'pros'. The only joy I would get from this scanner is dropping it off a 10 story building

See above, the auto paper feed is very erratic, it works half the time with one page, probably on 10% with multiple pages. I may have just gotten a lemon but you'd think the repair center could have fixed it

Fast, efficient and easy to use. What's not to love?

This unit is exactly what I was looking for to scan multiple documents quickly and efficiently. If you can afford the steep price tag, it's well worth it.

The scanner is small enough for me to move it around easily from desk to desk. The software was very easy to install and there was no need to calibrate the unit once finished. The software is also easy to use. The scanner is very fast, even on high res

It's expensive and a little on the heavy side

Very Capable Machine

Got this unit 4 days ago to replace an AIO not from Epson that was painfully slow at simplex scanning. What a remarkable difference! Throughput is dependent on host computer, as it blazes with a recent Mac Mini and is a little slower with a gen one G5...

software...

Perhaps we got spoiled with the Canon M-160 scanners. They are fast and come with a very simple interface that the drones aren't confused by. Too bad they are a grand each... Played with Paperport, FineReader, VueScan and Scanitto; the concept that...

Decently made hardware. Feels fairly solid accept for the flimsy paper catch tray

The epson software is junk. The interface is terrible and the codecs used for pdf generation produce huge file sizes relative to other programs (3 pages greyscale at 300dpi comes to 1.8Mb). The interface for naming files before scanning is buried deep...
