HP Scanjet 4890 Photo Scanner

This flatbed churns out photo and film scans in a flash, but getting good image quality requires some fiddling.

Although the HP Scanjet 4890 Photo Scanner satisfies the need for speed--especially with transparency scanning--its features and default image quality could be better.

HP Scanjet 4890 Photo Scanner

The HP Scanjet 4890 Photo Scanner ($199.99 direct) is the best argument we've seen lately for never buying a scanner based on the big numbers shouting from the box. The claimed 4,800 pixel-per-inch (ppi) optical resolution and 48-bit color depth...

Scans 35mm, medium-format, and 4- by 5-inch film, documents, and photographic prints. Fast performance, particularly for film

Low scan quality. Good only for printing scans at snapshot quality

With HP Scanjet 4890 Photo Scanner, working with film and photographic prints is easy, but scan quality lacks.

Great for negatives

Great for negatives

I bought this because it was able to scan multiple negatives simutaneously. I had wedding photo negatives that were probably 2.5" square, and most of the small negative scanners wont scan this size, and many scanners don't have the adapters to do...

Lousy image quality for slides

I scanned lots of prints with my HP psc 1210 with great results, which prompted me to get the Scanjet 4890 for slides and negatives. I have scanned over 1000 slides and the more I do the more I dislike this scanner. It has been such a disappointment...

Can put 16 slides in the tray. Fast if you don't care about quality.

Poor to terrible image quality, the less bright the picture the worse the scan.

Excelent machine.

Excelent machine.

The product was advertised as new and it is. Other than a slight cosmetic dent in the cover which is hardly noticible, this machine is what we were looking for. Old odd sized negatives come out as good as original prints. Delivered as promised. We...

It works great so why stop making it?

I have had 2 Epson and 3 HP scanners in the past. This is by far the best. I had a lot of old photos from early 1900's to computerize. It did great. It also did great with the slides and negatives. I highly recommend this. I can't wait to get...
