Good service and image quality

Even though the other writers gave Microtek not really good comments. However, I think it really gives me a good impression on customer services. Besides, I have bought it for over 15 months, it really can present to good image quality and I am keeping...

DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE $1500 TO THROW AWAY!!!

I bought this scanner about 13 months ago, we use it at most 5-6x a day which I think is very minimal useage. It's broken already and when I checked to see if others were having this problem they all said the same thing- the light fixture burns out...

it could scan xrays because of the back light

POOR PRODUCT and POOR customer service

Big mistake! Must read before buying!!!!!!!!!!!

WARNING: Do not buy this scanner!! It will die on you after the warranty end. Read my review, it will save you an aggravation and lots of money. We purchase the 9800XL with the TDM scanner in April 2005. About six month later the scanner developed a...

Quite possibly the most unreliable LF scanner on the market

I work at a book bindery and we have 6 9800XLs, all have been replaced twice, and soon to be a third time, mostly from them developing scanlines, and we've only had them about a year and a half. Microtek would only allow us to get warranty on the first...

Cheap if you need large format scanning

Cheaply made, customer support is horrible

The biggest purchase mistake ever

We have the scanner that we used very lightly for just about 17 month, it start to develop a strip of 1/4" blur on the left side that got larger and now it is 1" wide. Now the "fun" part is Microtek out of warranty policy is exchange for a new one at...

Now, I can't think of any

No repair option, noisy

Don't get ripped off!

Loading the drivers is a pain. But, after the drivers were loaded and the color calibration was done, the scanner performed great - for 14 months. We run 5-6 scans a month for printing reasons. After 14 months, the light on the scanner went out. After...

Good scan quality

Hard to set up - short lifetime

Expensive,Undependable bad tech support

Large scan area (11"x17"), has alot of image and color correction features

TERRIBLE tech support. Even under warranty, you have to send the unit back to Microtek for service in California AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE, (costs $70 priority mail from NY) and it takes longer time than they claim to process your unit. It is NOT compatible wit

Another voice added to the chorus of woe...

I won't get into too much detail, but my experience with this unit is the same as reported by many others here. It worked like a champ for about a year. The color scans were faithful and vivid and the black and white were great. Then, I guess it's the...

Great Scanner, no Problems.

Great Scanner, no Problems.

I've had this scanner at work for at least 6 years. I haven't had any problems except a few driver issues early on. All those issues were fixed with reloading drivers. It's currently attached to an XP machine and works well. For all of those who...

Product Specifications

The ScanMaker 9800XL is Microtek's member of the A3 scanner family designed on the success of the ScanMaker 9600XL with greatly improved specifications and connectivity. The large 17" x 12" scanning area combined with a very high 1600 x 3200 dpi resolution covers almost all reflective scanning requirements. The improved optional transparency adapter now offers a very large 16" x 12" scan area and the maximum density of 3.7D. The scanner captures huge amounts of subtle highlight and shadow details, with accurate color values, thanks to the 48-bit CCD sensor and the inclusion of multi-sampling. The transparency adapter option also includes a set of film templates for 35mm slides, 35mm strips, medium format film and 5" x 4" film. Extra holders make this the perfect scanner for producing large contact sheets with the ability to deliver high-quality final scans too. To cover almost all connectivity requirements, three interface options are included as standard, FireWire, SCSI-2 and USB 1.1. A PCI FireWire card for Windows and cable, plus a USB cable are also included. Windows NT users can also use this scanner with the addition of a SCSI card and cable. The ScanMaker 9800XL includes a powerful software suite. Adobe Photoshop Elements, LaserSoft SilverFast Ai 5.5 (IT-8), ABBYY FineReader Sprint OCR and Ulead PhotoExplorer are all included for both MacOS and Windows. Windows users can also benefit from the ScanWizard Pro Network Scanning solution that allows several PCs to share this scanner over a local area network.
