ScanMaker 9800XL

The image-quality is impressive once the scanner has been calibrated; the wide dynamic range pulls out subtle details in highlights and shadows. Unfortunately, neither ScanWizard nor SilverFast incorporate dust-removal routines. Users have to spend a...

Great High Performance Scanner

I've had great results and I'd buy another one if needed.

I have two of these scanners, one plain flatbed and one with the optional TMA unit for scanning transparent media. If you are really into scanning it does a beautiful job. I have had no trouble with either of the units in the maybe seven or eight years...

The software that is shipped with the 9800xl is feature packed but could be a bit more polished, however, this is not a kiddie scanner.

Cheapest LF scanner, very poor longevity!

Save your money, it makes that good scanner so much more expensive when you throw this thing off the roof in 4 months.

When it worked, it was great. Apple driver support. Cheapest LF you can find.

Same story as the rest - only lasted about 4 months before it blew out capacitors. I was able to stretch the lifespan to about 1.5 years after repairing the electronics 3 separate times. Has problems with the multiple interfaces: would work on Firewire...

EXPENSIVE PAPERWEIGHT

I work as a graphic artist/Tech-in-training for a book bindery, and we have 6 9800XLs all of which have been replaced twice, and soon to be a third time and we've only had them for about a year and a half. They all start developing scanlines and...

A decent LF scanner will cost you twice as much

If it is still working well after having it for a couple of months you are one lucky individual

Great - when it was working

Price.

BOTH of these that I purchased failed within the first 3 or 4 months.

Great - when it was working

We bought two of these for scanning tabloid size documents, and went with this particular one because of its price. We already had two Epson Expression 1640XL's that have been rock solid for years. I won't buy another Microtek product.

Price. Tabloid size.

BOTH of these that I purchased failed within the first 3 or 4 months. The lamp would go out on one, and the other one was not recognized by any computers we hooked it up to. Both were RMA'd within the first year and repaired. Shipping to them is at...

Works Great, With Lots of Connection Options

It's a shame that the only scanners larger than letter or legal size paper are entry-level professional ones. The good news, though, is that you are getting your money's worth. If you're willing to invest in a good oversize scanner, this is probably...

Nice, big scanning bed, which is just what I needed for my home studio. The unit is sturdy, and comes with a range of different ways to hook it up to your computer, which came in handy when my computer's old firewire drivers decided to not work one...

The unit is particuarly noisy when scanning. All scanners make annoying noises when they're working, yes, but this one has to be one of the loudest I've ever used. Additionally, the scanning software that interfaces with Photoshop (or whatever other...
