Review: Plustek OpticFilm 7300 Scanner

Scanners come in all shapes and sizes and they all have different purposes. Plustek makes lots of different kinds of scanners. They have photo scanners, books scanners, and film scanner. Over two years ago I reviewed the OpticFilm 7200, today I am...

Plustek OpticFilm 7300

For those of us old enough to remember, there was a time when cameras were loaded with a thing called film. You could load film to shoot prints, or you could load slide film that garnered slides for displaying on a slide projector, most likely a Kodak...

Plustek OpticFilm 7300 Film Scanner review

It has been more than a year since I reviewed the Plustek OpticFilm 7200i. So when I was offered the newer OpticFilm 7300, I was intrigued to find out what the updated model would be able to offer. The Plustek OpticFilm 7300 is aimed squarely at the...

Plustek OpticFilm 7300 film scanner

Plustek may not be the first scanner name on your lips when you start to cast your eye about when researching the market for a machine to digitise all those old negatives and slides stashed in shoe boxes under the bed. But, it has a steadily growing...

Ease of use, optical resolution, great scans and software package, Auto frame detection

Slow on very high resolution scans; price makes more versatile flatbed scanner or All in One device options attractive

Inexpensive, efficient (up to a point) scanner that won’t break the bank but will provide good quality scans.

Mac Compatibility is Marginal

Although the product description indicates this unit is compatible with both Windows and Mac computers, it is not. The OpticFilm 7300 will only function when connected to a Mac using the SilverFast software. All of the accompanying Plustek software is...

Smaller than a flatbed scanner, multi-scan capability, easy to crop and frame images, slide previewer on top is handy, well designed slide holder

Poor documentation, most of the accompanying software is not Mac compatible, slow, poorly designed film (negative) holder, the Mac user interface is VERY unMac-like

Great scanner

Install went smoothly on Vista. Scanner works great and does everything it should. Prints look great

You need SilverFast HDR to make use of the 48 bit HDR scan

Plustek OpticFilm 7300 A17-BBM31-C 48bit CCD Single Pass 7200 x 7200 dpi Hardware Resolution Scanner - Retail

Very poor business for a manufacturer to sell a product under false pretenses.

economical

Will not work as designed and advertised with Photoshop Elements 6 on the Mac Leopard platform. Plustek customer service technician replied after several fruitless communications about failed installation: "Yes, we know. They are working on it, but at...

Plustek OpticFilm 7300 A17-BBM31-C 48bit CCD Single Pass 7200 x 7200 dpi Hardware Resolution Scanner

Very poor business for a manufacturer to sell a product under false pretenses. And who are "They?" - Plustek, Silverfast (software), Apple, or. . . .? If you are Mac Leopard user and require integration with Photoshop, avoid this product.

Great for the home scrapbooker

If you want a more professonal and higher resolution scan, I would get a different scanner, but for scrap booking family slides and negative, this is great.

The one step scan was easy to setup and I had more than 30 slides scaned in about an hour at 1200 ppi in color. Great for artciving home slides that my parents took when i was a kid so i can make them a memory book for their 50th anniversary

Have not found the scratch remover in the included program.I am using the paint shop pro instead and its doing a great job
