Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance A19 Starter Kit

The third-generation Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance A19 Starter Kit is costly, but remains the ultimate way to get started with smart lighting in your home.

Highly customizable. Better blues and greens, with improved color consistency, brightness, and longevity over previous bulbs. More intuitive app experience. Lots of fun third-party integrations.

Expensive. Setting Routines could be easier.

If price isn't an issue, however, the Hue White and Color Ambiance are the smart bulbs we recommend. They're easy to install, customize, control remotely, and they integrate with many other devices and services you probably already use. Despite the...

Philips Hue White and Color Ambience Starter Kit A19

Now, thanks to a new version of the Hue Bridge , they'll work with Apple HomeKit , too. A set of smart-home protocols built into iPhone and iPad operating systems, HomeKit brings voice-activated Siri controls into play -- and keeps Philips Hue firmly...

Philips Hue 2.0 adds Apple HomeKit to a long, impressive list of compatible smart home platforms. Sync your bulbs up with your iOS device, and you'll be able to trigger lighting changes by asking Siri.

Philips Hue review: The pioneer in LED lighting is showing its age

Reliance on the ZigBee protocol can cause range issues, but no company has been in this space longer.

Photo-to-light hue matching feature is endlessly entertaining ; Vibrant colors ; Lots of configurability options, including a clever geofencing system

Disappointing brightness no matter what color you pick ; Non-intuitive app interface ; Major range issues in my installation

Limited range and a clunky mobile interface make Hue a tough sell amidst growing competition.

Philips Hue White Ambiance A19 Starter Kit review: This is the bulb to beat

The Philips Hue White Ambiance is a doppelganger for its color bulb. In fact, the bulbs are identical in appearance, with the exception of fine print written on the heat sink indicating these bulbs are white only. (Even maximum brightness, at 800...
