Nest Cam IQ Review: Impressive face-recognition comes at a price

In an increasingly competitive world of connected security cameras, Nest has turned to Alphabet-sibling Google and its facial recognition tech to make the Nest Cam IQ stand out. Not just the latest in the company's sophisticated home security camera...

Excellent video quality ; Zooming and enhance features really work ; Facial recognition is fast and accurate ; Polished setup and app experience

Camera is expensive ; Nest Aware subscription required for most features ; Not weatherproof

It almost goes without saying that this is the best camera Nest has created. For ease of setup, the simplicity of the app, and image quality it’s hard to find another camera that can compete. Factor in the useful and accurate facial recognition, and...

Nest Cam IQ

The Nest Cam IQ is a 1080p home surveillance camera that offers facial recognition, automatic zoom tracking, motion- and sound-triggered alerts, and interoperability with many other smart devices.

Excellent face recognition and two-way audio. Sharp 1080p video. Motion and sound detection. Easy to install. Works with other smart home devices.

Expensive. Many features require Nest Aware subscription.

There's a lot to like about the Nest Cam IQ. Its Supersight zooming feature does a great job of tracking visitors and matching them to your Familiar Face library, and it's smart enough to know the difference between a person and other moving objects....

Nest Cam IQ review

The $299/£299 Nest Cam IQ is unquestionably smart, but I can't recommend it as readily as Nest's other security cameras. My main reason? Price.

The $299/£299 Nest Cam IQ has an 8-megapixel, 4K image sensor and improved 12x digital zoom for access to new livestreaming security features. A hardware upgrade improves the audio quality of Nest's two-way talk function.

You still have to pay at least $10 per month for continuous cloud video storage. The camera's price doesn't quite match up with the features added.

The Nest Cam IQ is a solid camera that costs a little too much to readily recommend to most home security DIYers.

Nest Cam IQ Review

Top notch video quality and facial recognition, but very little video history without a subscription

Great video quality, smooth real time viewing, field leading monitoring services available, great facial recognition

Very limited without a subscription

The Nest Cam IQ is the most advanced camera on the home security market. If you want something that can recognize faces this is the camera for you, just don't forget that you'll have to shell out for a Nest Aware subscription as well.

Nest Cam IQ Review: Face Recognition, for a Price

The Nest Cam IQ has very good day time image quality (it's pretty good at nighttime, too), excellent audio, and its software is one of our favorites among security cameras. However, it's expensive -- $100 more than previous Nest cameras, as well as our...

Excellent audio quality ; Very good video quality ; Intelligent Familiar Face detection ; Well-designed, intuitive software

No local storage ; Key features, including video history, require cloud subscription

The Nest Cam IQ is a step above Nest's previous models, offering excellent audio, good to very good video quality and intelligent, intuitive software. However, it's expensive, and requires a cloud subscription to access your video history and other key...

The Nest Cam IQ may be smarter, but it’s not yet brilliant

The Nest Cam IQ is the latest product from Alphabet-owned smart home company Nest, an HD security camera with a 4K sensor it uses to do things like intelligently track faces and people at higher resolution. I've been testing the $299 Nest Cam IQ for a...

Nest Cam IQ review

Great design, but not cheap if you want full functionality

Extremely well built ; Beautiful design ; Records high definition footage ; Built in two-way audio

Quite expensive ; Limited functionality without paying Nest Aware subscription ; Mains only ; Gets very hot

This sophisticated and well made security camera with built in facial recognition technology really is one of the most advanced IP cameras we have ever seen. However, you will pay a hefty price in terms of monthly subscription fees if you want to...

Nest Cam IQ review: Nest cam is the best cam but boy does it cost

If you want to see your kids, pets and burglars in pristine full HD, including at night, with intelligent alerts, look no further

Excellent quality footage with HD streams and 8-meg downloads ; Reasonably intelligent alerts ; Excellent night vision, mic and speaker ; Well designed all round

Feels crazily expensive ; Not weatherproof ; Nest Aware pretty much obligatory ; What is the point of it?

Nest Cam IQ review: The security camera with facial recognition

Incredibly clever technology and embarrassingly easy to use, but the subscription prices are too high

Easy to set up ; Uncannily accurate facial recognition ; Decent video quality

Expensive to buy ; Expensive to run

Effectively, after spending £300 on the Nest Cam IQ, you need to factor in costs of at least $10 (£8) per month for ten-day continuous footage storage and “person recognition”; or pay $30 (£23) per month for the extended 30-day storage plan. After one...

Nest Cam IQ review

A review of the Nest Cam IQ, a 4K HDR indoor security camera that relies heavily on a subscription service.

If your wallet and broadband can cope with it, the Nest Cam IQ is a great all-round package. However, given the issues with facial recognition and reliance on the subscription to use most of the features, it doesn't represent good value.
