OCZ Vertex 4 256GB Review

Never-before-seen write speeds; new controller

High maximum response time

OCZ has typically reserved its Vertex label for the highest-performing SSDs in a given generation—using synchronous NAND, for example, rather than the asynchronous NAND found in its less expensive Agility series. The 256GB Vertex 4 carries on that...

OCZ Vertex 4 (256GB)

OCZ?s latest refresh of its Vertex line of solid-state drives addresses some crucial issues, but the changes won?t make it the ideal SSD for everyone.

Fast overall. Balances performance well regardless of data compression. Covered by five-year warranty

Inconsistent performances between workloads, activity types

OCZ Vertex 4 (256GB)

To most consumers, OCZ Technology doesn't have the same name recognition that computing giants such as Samsung, Intel, and SanDisk do. But when it comes to solid-state drives (SSDs), the San Jose, Calif.-based company has experience aplenty. Founded in...

Fastest all-around consumer-grade drive we've tested to date ; Five-year warranty

No data-migration software bundled ; A bit pricier than other "performance-grade" drives

It's a bit pricier than other SSDs of its capacity we've tested in 2012, and its thickness will keep it out of many thin laptops, but the Vertex 4 blazed through our benchmark tests, making it a great option for power users.

OCZ Vertex 4 256GB Review

OCZ as a company has come a long way in a few short years and is one of the pioneers of consumer and industrial grade Solid State Drives. Early drives based on JMicron controllers offered significant increases in performance over spindle-based drive...

Indilinx Everest 2 Controller ; Low price point ; Performance ; Responsiveness ; Five year warranty

Sequential reads

When you look at what the Vertex 4 brings to the table it's hard not to be impressed. Equipped with OCZ's latest Indilinx controller that is optimized to work with data streams of varying compressibility without running into performance bottlenecks,...

Great SSD

Love the amount of storage and speed of this SSD. The 256g is extremely nice to have. I have quite a few games on it and still have room. I have a HD for additional storage and it's pretty easy to tell the difference between the two.

Extremely fast but with a ton of storage. I got this unit while it was on sale and it was a steal. I play a good amount of games on it and I almost always load before anyone else

None, great SSD. Great buy

Very Nice and super fast

I have gotten my money worth out of this. If it died tomorrow I would go and buy another, even at the higher price

Very fast. I have had this since 7/30/2013 and never a problem. Windows loads in 23 seconds form the time I hit the power on switch. My computer shuts down in 20 seconds after hitting the off switch

Only con for new buyers is that the price hasn't dropped. I paid $209.99 on Newegg almost a year ago

Avoid buying from OCZ

I have RMA'ed other faulty products before and in each case an RMA label was supplied with their carrier of choice and I could easily track the process. For OCZ I have to write the RMA number on the box and HOPE it gets to them and they can confirm it....

When the drive worked it was very fast

Six weeks after installation with normal use the drive locked up the PC and then failed to be recognized by the Motherboard. Testing in other systems resulted in failure as well. If you have to send a drive back to OCZ their RMA process is terrible...

Rockin' SSD!

If you haven't tried an SSD, Do It Soon! You will not regret it! Especially if you buy one of these... This drive is working fine with W-XP Pro. I bought more RAM than XP can use, for future, possible W-7 (W-9?) upgrade (but XP is just so easy & fun to...

Smoking FAST, even with Windows XP Pro OS and limited (3.something GB used, of 8GB total...) system RAM. Boot times are Stunning! So stunning that I actually enjoy re-boots (verses dreading them)! No issues so far, but I haven't finished loading &...

Out of stock & not on sale/free... :<) ; (New Egg, Please Get MORE of these!!!)

near the top of the food chain

i have two of these in raid 0 on a modern chipset and they easily break the GB/s data transfers for reads using the atto benchmark.

quick performance;near the top of the charts ; does not slow down when dealing with non-compressible data ; great warranty ; ocz is now dedicated to quality over quantity;all firmware goes through a minimum 60 day qualification and is also brutally...
