The P400 only supports SATA I (150mb/s) speeds, so a faster SSD wouldn't necessarily improve performance. Treat it like a CDRW: Create a staging volume. Write everything out to it. Defrag it. Then image it and use it r/o. Or copy r/o files to it and...

In an HP DL385G2 server, SA-P400 raid, Win 2003x64 R2, I get close to the write performance (when new) of a 10K SAS drive, and about 4x the read performance of a 15K SAS drive using SQLIO. Had to format it at 63 sectors/track to get it to work....

Was missing the imaging software; Plextor is sending another copy. The garbage collection is mediocre; write performance drops in half or lower when it gets > 80% full
