Sandisk ReadyCache 32GB review

The decreasing price of flash memory means SSDs are more accessible than ever. That's doubly true of cache drives, which use smaller amounts of memory to improve performance when installed in systems that still use hard disks.

Not quick or capacious, but ideal for those looking for SSD-style speed boosts on the cheap

Gathering Dust.

Simple, was cheap for comparable sized ssd at time ; very light

Really did very little for performance ; Converting it to usable space was not worth it ; Currently expensive vs a full featured SSD ; Replaced this with a Chronos 60GB SSD for a real performance gain used as dedicated cache drive

Meeeh....

For a noticeable performance boost, I recommend sticking with an Intel motherboard that supports SSD cache with its chipset, or get a third party PCIe card that supports HyperDuo.

The drive itself seems fine, if you're looking for something with low capacity. But I'm not paying for just the drive

The ReadyCache software really feels useless. Maybe I don't see it because I already have a RAID-5 setup, but I was hoping for some performance boost. It's just cutting off a second or two on load times, if anything. Drivers load after boot, so there's...

Great solution

Excellent solution if you want to keep your big HDD. Not as fast as SSD alone but darn close. Bought one for my brother!

Cuts boot time (50 to 55 secs), very fast loading of games, apps. No glitches that I can detect

Not bad

Good buy if you want to give your mechanical hard drives a little pep without the hassle of setting up a caching hard drive manually.

Does its jobs well as a caching drive and installation of the hardware and software is a breeze

Wish the software was more customizable and able to allocate the cache to specific hard drives like ROMEX's Primo Cache software allows. You can use it with third party software but why not include it in this one

Reliable, Linux-friendly

I initially bought one of these to replace my Kingston 64Gb SSD that only lasted a year. Since then, I have bought 3 more of these in the past few years with no problems or failures. These are perfect for your operating system + a few games to live on,...

Fast, reliable, cheap

Only 32Gb, but you get what you pay for

Hot Mess

If you are a gamer or power user this is not for you if you run lots of HDD intensive programs because it will fill up the cache then dump it all over and over and the benefits are lost. if you politely check email and edit word documents for your...

It is cheap, easy to install and boosts performance when it actually works correctly..................(see "cons")

but most of the time it crashes/freezes your computer or whatever game you are playing. it takes awhile to fill up the cache for a boost but if it gets too full like past 26gb it RESETS and clears the cache. if you restart the machine, you lose the...

Saved My PC...

I wasn't sure about buying this originally but I've just ordered 2 more for a couple of HTPCs. The first one I bought was for a computer I built a few years ago on the cheap. Its mainly just an email and browse the web PC but it was getting really...

v1.3.2 has problems with Windows 7.

If SanDisk figures out how to fix this caching software, it's a great product. At the moment, though, it's current software causes it to not work at all. I wouldn't recommend it for Windows 7 at the moment, but apparently it works fine for Windows 8...

It's a great caching SSD when it works. It increased my boot times dramatically from 30 seconds to 1 minute, down to under 10 seconds. Desktop startup time is much faster as well ; The GUI is also simple to understand, and simple to use ; 32 Gbs of...

If you go to the forums for this product on SanDisk's community website, you'll see that it has problems on Windows 7. I can attest to that ; When trying to use the full 32 Gb partition to cache on, the cache will randomly reset, and cause Windows 7 to...
