Amazon Echo Spot review: This Alexa speaker is as sharp as it is smart

The Amazon Echo Spot is the new best smart speaker, beating out the larger Echo Show as well as the Google Home.

Excellent design that looks great in any room ; 2.5-inch circular screen is bright, crisp, and doubles as a clock ; Camera can be completely disabled

Hefty cord somewhat limits where it can be placed ; Videos are truncated in full-screen mode

The Echo Spot is easily my favorite smart speaker, and I have plenty of them in my house: two Dots, two Google Homes, and a full-sized Echo. I was too put off by the Show's size to take the plunge, but the Spot's good looks, versatility, and overall...

Amazon Echo Spot

The tiny, Alexa-powered, touch-screen Amazon Echo Spot makes a perfect smart bedside or desk clock.

Super cute design. Useful display. Supports all Alexa features. 3.5mm output.

Not a powerful speaker. No non-camera option.

The Spot fills out Amazon's smart speaker lineup. You now have the Amazon Echo for general-purpose use, the Tap to take out to the patio, the Spot to sit by your bed or kitchen counter, and the Echo Dot to fill in the gaps. If you want the best sound...

Amazon Echo Spot review: an almost-perfect smart alarm clock

‘Alexa, are you watching me?'

Crisp, clear speaker for Alexa’s responses ; Bright display with large text that always shows the time ; Microphones pick up voice commands well ; Does all of the things other Echo devices can do

Do you really want an always-watching camera in your bedroom? ; Not the best for serious music listening ; Expensive relative to audio-only Echo devices ; Few third-party apps make use of the display

Just give me one without a camera, Amazon.

Amazon Echo Spot Review: Alexa’s cutest container

Of all Alexa's various enclosures, the Amazon Echo Spot is undoubtedly the cutest. Its body is spherical - larger than a baseball, but much smaller than an Echo Show - and fronted with a 2.5-inch circular touchscreen. That's a display shape still rare...

Most attractive Echo device so-far ; Alexa is as capable as ever ; Speaker is loud and mic-array works well ; Cheaper than Echo Show ; 3.5mm and Bluetooth audio options

Alexa Skills can look awkward on circular screen ; No YouTube support (currently) ; Price difference with Echo Show is (currently) small ; Circular display isn't ideal for video

Amazon Echo Spot review

Gaze into the abyss, and the abyss gazes back. That's what's running through my head on my first night testing the Amazon Echo Spot. I'm lying in bed struggling to fall asleep as I sometimes do, and it's sitting there displaying the time on my...

The Echo Spot is a well-made device with a good-looking design, and it's handy for quick, voice-activated video calls. Sound quality was better than we expected, and noticeably better than the Echo Dot's.

The Echo Spot doesn't currently support YouTube, nor does it offer many video sources for your flash briefings. The touchscreen adds less than it should to the Alexa experience, and it's too small to be helpful unless you're within a few feet of the...

The Echo Spot is a fine for what it is, but Amazon still hasn't done enough to convince us that Alexa needs a touchscreen at all.

Amazon Echo Spot review: As smart as it is cute

"Hey Alexa, show me the cutest Echo ever."

I adore the Echo Spot. It looks great on my nightstand, and I love using it in the kitchen to look up recipes or add to my grocery list. The screen enhances the standard Alexa experience; I love being able to see the information rather than just listen...

Amazon Echo Spot review

The newest member of the Echo family is Amazon's best-looking hardware yet.

Cute, sleek looking device ; Intuitive controls ; User-friendly ; Alexa keeps getting smarter

Video camera could be a privacy issue ; Wish it had a USB port

With its sleek design and the additional alarm clock features, the Echo Spot is an attractive device that could be useful in any room.

Amazon Echo Spot Review: Alexa Just Killed Your Alarm Clock

The $129 Echo Spot will appeal to people who are looking for a smart Alexa-enabled clock for their nightstand or office. Its small, circular screen, while quirky, is useful for delivering information. But I suspect most people will use it just as a clock.

Has an attractive design ; Its audio is good for the speaker's size ; Built-in camera works well ; Fits well on a nightstand

Screen is too small to be very useful ; Needs more clockfaces

The sphere-like Echo Spot is more compact than the Echo Show and provides good audio quality for its size, but the circular screen is small.

The Echo Spot is my new favorite Alexa device

I got excited when the Echo Spot debuted. At the time, I tentatively declared it the best Echo at the time, and after living with the device for the better part of a week, my sentiments haven't really changed

I like the Spot. If I was current in the market for an Echo device, this would probably be the one. It’s one of the better looking members in the line and the $129 price seems just about right. The display’s usefulness is hampered somewhat by size and...

Amazon Echo Spot review

This addition to the Echo family is a fun, versatile video device

Lovely form factor ; Video is clear

Round screen means video cropping ; Pricier than the regular Echo

The Amazon Echo Spot is the best-looking Echo product out there: a versatile, Alexa-toting video device that wants to be in your bedroom, your kitchen, your office...
