UltimateAVmag.com: B&W 683 Surround Speaker System

Founded in Worthing, England in 1966 by the late John Bowers, B&W (more formally known as Bowers and Wilkins) is now one of the best-known names in the industry. While the average man in the street might wonder when the car manufacturer started making...

Very affordable, Speakers virtually disappear when not in use, An astonishingly cohesive soundfield, Smooth, natural sound, Detailed but sweet-sounding treble, Seamless integration of front L/R and center-channel speakers, Low bass that can shake walls...

System requires high-performance subwoofer and bass management, Speakers need detailed setup to sound their best, System requires AVR or power amp capable of driving 4-ohm loads, Expensive (although not for what you get), Dipole surround speakers not...

The music soundtrack for Transformers, mentioned earlier, impressed me the most of all the of all the movies I auditioned on the B&Ws. I'm not part of the Transformer generation, but I'm more than willing to accept odd science fiction plots if they are...

B&W 683 Surround Speaker System

While its product range includes some of the most expensive loudspeakers on the market, B&W has always worked hard to bring as much of its advanced technology as possible to more affordable designs. And the new 600 Series goes further in that regard...

B&W 683 Theatre review

These B&Ws are impressive to look at and, especially at low volumes, impressive to listen to – but we'd like a bit more excitement for our money

Purposeful looks ; detailed, full-bodied sound ; goes plenty loud

Mistakes a lack of involvement for refinement ; flimsy feel to rear speakers

Impressive to look at and, especially at low volumes, impressive to listen to – but we’d like a bit more excitement for our money

B&W 683

The 683 is the top model in B&W's most recent incarnation of the entry-level 600 Series. It's not a speaker range to be taken lightly, especially given that B&W is one of the largest dedicated loudspeaker makers in the world

Remarkably revealing and a wide dynamic range, Impressive bass extension, Lovely rubberised front baffle

Vinyl finish won't be to all tastes

By taking the fundamentals of the 804S and putting them in a solid box, B&W has laid down the gauntlet at this price point. We have not come across this level of transparency in a sub- £1,000 speaker before - the killer bass is the icing on the cake

Everything about these speakers is heavyweight, including a large bolt-on plinth with a soft foot/adjustable spike combination. It's so heavy for its size that it feels like it has been partially sand-filled. The cabinet is available in a choice of...

Comes alive at high volume levels. Excellent sound stage. Well-timed bass

Comes alive at high volume levels. Exposed tweeters aid dispersion but are vulnerable to being touched

This is overall a Great speaker, i couldn't believe the clarity and consistency of this speaker and this brand. These are the 600 series basically the bottom of the poll. You have the CM series and the 800 Diamond series. These are amazing and the best...

Biwired 683's into Rotel RC-1580 pre and RB-1582 amp. The synergy between the B and W 's and Rotel pieces go together nice. Use to own Kef tower speakers and found the B and W to be a much smoother sounding speaker compairing the 2 with the Rotel...

This is my second review of these beautiful speakers( sound & visual). Since I've owned them I've moved into a house that has a listening room just right for these speakers. 12' X 25' room that just lets them breathe. Currently I have Rotel seperates...
