Bose 301 Bookshelf Speakers Reviewed

The sound of the 301 Bookshelf Speakers sounds big and the "seemingly good sensitivity" does a good job with background music and casual listening." Overall, they have "big sound and wide dispersion" despite having a "relatively small footprint." It...

The 301s throw very big sound with wide dispersion, which is pleasing to the listener ; The 301s fit into many different decors, and come in Light Cherry or Black. These aren't the largest amount of finishes, but the ones they have are pretty good

The Bose 301s offer sound lacking in focus and detail, as compared to more audiophile speakers in their price category ; The soundstage smears and the overall sonic picture lacks coherence, musicality and palpability when compared directly with the...

The Bose 301 provides big, expansive sound within a relatively small footprint, and fits into many space-conscious home environments. However, its sonic properties lack the raw frequency response, dynamics, imaging and soundstaging necessary for...

Audition other first.

While these can get pretty loud, it just doesn't fit my style of listening. Which is accuracy, wide sound stage, defined and controlled bass. I returned these when I A/B/C them with a set of NHT classic three and Paradigm Studio 20.

Passable mid-range, decent amount of bass. Does get pretty loud

While these do have a decent amount of bass, the bass is very muddy and uncontrolled. The mid-range isn't as defined as other speaker in it's price range. The woofer is much too large to accurately reproduce mid-range and strains it's self pulling...

Have no regets with 301's

The sideways and rear firing tweeters seem to make these superb for rear channel use. I have mine at an angle, and the effects on some movies are just unreal. If you own the dvd Toy-Story2, view the part where the large concrete pipe falls from a...

If you have two or four of these, and a high quality center channel, you will never ever need a sub-woofer; powered or not. I use these as my rears, with a good center channel, and high quality monitors as my fronts. I have yet to be impressed with any...

These, like most Bose products today, are sadly made in Mexico. Nothing like another USA success story being outsourced (with our collective future) down the river. I beleive Bose was started by a single MIT engineer.

Product Specifications

Compare Bose 301 speakers against other bookshelf systems, and you'll understand why this is one of the world's best-selling speakers. These versatile and elegant speakers are ideal for movies, music and more. Advancing a long-standing tradition of high-quality audio, 301 speakers feature Bose proprietary Direct/Reflecting speaker technology to re-create lifelike, spacious sound. You enjoy a natural balance of reflected and direct sound for a listening experience most conventional speakers cannot match. Music sounds similar to what you'd hear at a concert, while movie sound effects resonate much the way they do at the theater. The 301 speakers fit practically anywhere - living room, bedroom, wherever you'd like. Acoustically and visually, they match other Bose speakers for seamless sound and styling. If you're thinking about component home theater arrangements, they can serve as front speakers with Bose's VCS-10 center channel speaker and 201 or 161 speakers for surround sound. Or use 301 speakers as rear surround speakers with a VCS-10 center channel and 701 or 601 speakers up front. With so many options at your disposal, these little wonder Bose 301 speakers are soundly above all others in their class. Most conventional speakers radiate sound directly into the room, sending balanced stereo sound to one small "sweet spot." The 301 speaker system is designed to deliver Stereo Everywhere speaker performance. You can sit just about anywhere in the room and still enjoy balanced stereo sound. Direct/Reflecting and Stereo Targeting tweeters provide mid to high frequencies over a wide, stable area between the speakers. And 8-inch woofers in each speaker enable smooth reproduction of deep, low notes, even at high volumes. You want to hear the full spectrum of audio, and this speaker delivers. The 301 speakers also feature a host of accessories for many placement options, and streamlined styling to complement your room design.
