Denon Cocoon iPod AirPlay Dock Systems Preview

Denon's new Cocoon Home and Cocoon Portable docks feature AirPlay, DLNA, Internet radio, on top of their integrated iDevice dock making them some of the more fully featured AirPlay docs out there.

The price is, of course, the sticking point with many of these new AirPlay devices. The larger Denon Cocoon Home will retail for $599 while the smaller Cocoon Portable will run $499. While not overpriced compared to other AirPlay speakers, the Denon...

Denon Cocoon review

An AirPlay speaker dock from a great brand; what's not to like? Well…

Lovely design and features ; Very good sound

though not jaw-dropping ; Daft placement of buttons

The sound is very good, though we did feel the need to press the Loundness button on the back to make it richer at moderate volumes.

Denon Cocoon Home

We've long used Denon AV receivers for our home-theatre setups, and have been impressed in the past with the company's bookshelf speaker systems, so we were keen to get our hands on the Cocoon, Denon's first foray into the world of speaker docks.

Very good audio; nice design; well built

Expensive; no Lightning dock; bass lacking a bit of punch

Besides the failed firmware update, the only problem we had with the Cocoon was the price. At $699 you’re getting into the neighbourhood of the Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air and the NAD VISO 1 – which are both awesome wireless speaker docks.
