Libratone Zipp

The Libratone Zipp is the younger, more portable sibling to the more expensive Libratone Live , both of which are stylish wireless speakers that stream audio via Apple's AirPlay. At $449 (direct), it's not cheap, but none of the quality AirPlay...

Portable, wireless audio via Apple Airplay. Innovative PlayDirect feature allows for wireless audio without a Wi-Fi network. Quality audio performance at moderate-to-high levels. Does not distort on deep bass tracks. Simple set up process

Not for bass lovers, nor purists opposed to digital signal processing. Shape of speaker prohibits strong stereo image

The wireless Libratone Zipp is portable, ultra-stylish, and a solid audio performer at moderate volumes, but its signal processing will be a turn-off for some.

Libratone Zipp Review

Time was, if you wanted a wooly column of wireless musical pleasure, you had to train a sheep to stand upright and sing. Libratone‘s new Zipp, however, changes that: a wool wrapped portable speaker delivering not only Apple's AirPlay but a tweaked...

At $399 it’s a hundred bucks more than a BIG JAMBOX, but to our ears the audio performance is well worth the extra cash. Broad compatibility with Apple devices and appealing design make the Zipp a solid pairing to your iPhone or iPad, with the...

Libratone Zipp review: PlayDirect AirPlay takes on Bluetooth speakers

Libratone isn't a household name yet, but the 30-person Danish company with its roots in acclaimed Steinway Lyngdorf audio is hoping to change the face of portable speakers, literally. Having grown from just ten employees at the introduction of its...

Sounds terrific, easily fills a room ; PlayDirect makes AirPlay truly portable for iOS and Mac users ; Looks great, can change appearance with optional sleeves ; Leather strap is a helpful / quirky addition ; PlayDirect Wi-Fi has better range than...

Expensive speaker, expensive sleeves ; No Bluetooth so no wireless support for Windows or Android ; PlayDirect interrupts 3G data unless manually configured ; PlayDirect can be finicky, requiring reboot

The Libratone Zipp is my new favorite portable wireless speaker

Libratone Zipp

You've probably seen Libratone's speakers on display in Apple's retail stores. They're the visually striking, fabric-covered things that look like little sculptures. A new addition to the line: the $400 Zipp.

Best example so far of Libratone’s design chops. Sound is great for modest parties in medium-size rooms. AirPlay setup and use is as easy as it gets on an established Wi-Fi connection. Decent battery life

The cost is a put-off. PlayDirect works, but setting up internet streaming is an annoyance. If you rely on Spotify or Pandora and plan to take the Zipp to the beach, consider carefully

Not too long ago, we reviewed the Libratone Live wireless AirPlay speaker here on UnleashthePhones, and I certainly wasn't the biggest fan of it. It was too...

The more Apple fiddles around with its dock connector, the less iOS speaker manufacturers seem to care. The proof of the pudding is that there are far fewer dock-based audio systems sent our way compared to the enormous wave of Lightning-agnostic...

Great looks, very easy to use, decent battery. The fact that it can create its own wireless network for playback is an excellent touch

Audio quality is average to good, but should really be good to very good at this price

Flexible, stylish and good to use; a great piece of kit for Apple users. One of the best portable audio solutions around. Not something for Android people.

Libratone's Zipp portable AirPlay speaker looks great. But does it cost too much money?

Good looking ; Sound is good

but not great ; Overpriced

The first portable speaker to allow AirPlay on the move is a technical triumph.

Lossless audio on the move ; Stylish, customisable design ; AirPlay

Short battery life over WiFi ; Bass overwhelms treble ; Extremely expensive

Jawbone Big Jambox.

Libratone Zipp review

Libratone's Zipp is another entry in the continually expanding market of colorful and unusually shaped wireless, portable speakers. However, while most of those speakers use Bluetooth, the Zipp uses Apple's AirPlay technology; and instead of being a...

Though it’s 1.3 pounds heavier, the Zipp feels about as portable as the big-but-totable Big Jambox. And as great as the Big Jambox sounds, the Zipp sounds even better. With its clever AirPlay and PlayDirect implementations, its simple setup process,...
