I have a spool of the 12 gauge and it has one white strand too. It may be tinned copper speaker wire. Do a web search for details...The product should list the composition of the wire...

It is not true 10 guage AND one run of the pair is silver in color. I don't think that run is even copper. Aluminum?? I will be buying a couple of 250 ft. rolls of low voltage landscape wire. The sample I received from a lighting store is a high...
