Mirage OMD-28 Surround Speaker System

In practice there is no such thing as a true omnidirectional speaker—a point source that radiates sound equally in all directions. Real world designs are variations on that theme, and it would be more accurate to call them multidirectional speakers....

Ultimate AV: Mirage OMD-28 Surround Speaker System

Mirage is an important player in this game. Its first "omni," the M-1, appeared in the late 1980s. The M-1 was not really a classic omni design. It radiated sound to both the front and rear almost equally, but its radiation to the side was no more...

Huge soundstage, with excellent depth, Forgiving of bright program material, but still highly detailed, Powerful bass from the OMD-28s, though a good sub will further enhance their performance, particularly on movies.

The bass can sound over-ripe on some material, including dialog, Low sensitivity, Omni sound is unique, requires some adaptation to fully appreciate, will not be to everyone's taste, The technical measurements are not impressive

Mirage OMD-28 Omnidirectional Loudspeaker

I have a vivid childhood memory where a music teacher and a group of older students gave demonstrations of orchestral and band instruments in the gymnasium of my elementary school. Some of the instruments were new to me and I was awestruck by hearing...

In the end, your response to the OMD- 28s may have much to do with how you react to their spatial characteristics. If, like me, you favor a speaker that gets out of the way and simply lets the music flow and breathe upon soundstages of realistic size...

Superb speakers

I was using a pair of Mirage OMD-15 speakers, which I purchased in August 2010 and loved them but I really had my eye on the 28's. I finally decided to go for them and am glad I did. First off, the 28's cost a little over 3x more than the 15's but they...

Mirage Loudspeakers OMD-28 Main / Stereo Speaker

I have had these speakers for about two months. I love their sound, and now I listen to music a whole lot more than before. I have had a pair of Bose 901 series IV speakers for about 10 years. I liked their natural and open sound, but I always felt...

Product Specifications

The OM Design series flagship model is the OMD-28, a floorstanding speaker featuring a complex curved cabinet design finished in exquisite wood veneers. The OMD-28 combines uncompromised 2-channel audiophile performance with the benefits of OMNIPOLAR technology. The OMD-28 uses state-of-the-art drivers, which feature the latest in engineering and high-tech materials. All drivers and components used for the OMD-28 have been specifically designed for this particular model and are custom-made to guarantee superior performance. The woofer and midrange cones utilize woven carbon fiber and are mated to Mirage's patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology. The Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology was developed to guarantee linear inward and outward travel of the woofer, increased cone area and increased excursion. This technology, when applied to the new OM Design woofers and midrange drivers, allows the OM Design series to reproduce a level of sonic detail and accuracy unlike anything ever experienced. These revolutionary drivers are housed in exquisite heavily braced curved MDF cabinets. The OMD-28 features dual 8-inch multilayer woven carbon fiber woofers, one 5.25" multi-layer carbon fiber/fiberglass hybrid midrange with underhung motor system and a new chambered 28mm titanium dome tweeter mounted in Mirage's patented OMNIGUIDE module. It uses two downward firing ports to utilize the space between the bottom of the cabinet and the stylish high-gloss base as a loading surface to further enhance low-end performance. This ingenious design allows the OMD-28 to reproduce incredibly low frequencies at stunningly high volume levels without sacrificing dynamics. With a frequency response of 25Hz - 20kHz +/- 3db and a usable low-frequency response of 18Hz (-10dB anechoic), the OMD-28s are sure to fill out even the largest rooms with incredible bass. High power handling and the ability to tri-wire/tri-amp complete this impressive speaker system. Painstaking craftsmanship is required to manufacture and finish the beautiful curved wood veneer cabinets.
