Onkyo HTX-22HDX (black)

Stylish 2.1 design; AV receiver built into subwoofer; three HDMI inputs; can be upgraded to a full 5.1 system.

Subpar sound quality; no minijack input or iPod connectivity.

The Onkyo HTX-22HDX is a slick-looking 2.1 home theater system with good features, but its sound quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Onkyo HT-S580 Home Theater System Conclusion

As the gunshots flew by and the cars swerved back and forth in the highway chase scene from "The Matrix Reloaded," the surround effects were highly detailed and accurately produced as the action panned from left to right.

Excellent sound; easy installation; stylish

No S-Video or component-video switching; meager middle-bass response

The satellite speakers do suffer in the middle-bass range of 150 to 250 Hz, but the bass frequencies produced by the 8-inch subwoofer were sufficiently strong and deep. The onscreen dialogue was clear and distinct, and the overall sound quality...

Onkyo HTX-22HDX review

AV amplifiers can simplify a home cinema setup by putting all audio and video inputs in one place. However, they take up a lot of space – not everyone has room for a rack of separates. The Onkyo HTX-22HDX active speaker system might be the answer to...

A superb all-in-one system for anyone who lacks room for an amplifier but wants the flexibility to upgrade in the future

Onkyo HTX-22HDX review

The Onkyo HTX-22HDX home-cinema system is ideal for anyone who has a smaller house, but still wants to take advantage of 5.1 surround sound. We recommend you get the 5.1 package -- it's well worth the extra outlay.

Superb sound ; Good price ; HD audio supported ; 3D pass-through support ; Audio Return Channel ; Cool-looking

Not the smoothest bass

The Onkyo HTX-22HDX is, like its predecssor, one of our favourite stand-alone all-in-one home cinema systems. It has exceptional, uncompromised support for the latest audio codecs, as well as Audio Return Channel and 3D movie pass-though. For people...

Onkyo HTX-22HD + SKS11 Surround Sound System

If you don't have the funds or inclination to buy a dedicated surround sound amplifier and separate speakers, Onkyo has a simple and affordable option.

The Onkyo HTX-22HD and SKS11 bundle may not have the power and presence of the Teufel Concept E400s, but it makes up for that in so many areas. This really is an all-in-one bundle that even the most technophobe consumer would have no problem installing.

Onkyo HTX-22HD review

Support for lossless audio codecs, good design and strong performance mean we're very happy to recommend this little AV receiver and speaker package. At £300 it's not the cheapest system we've seen, but it performs better than most sound-bar type...

All-in-one solution ; Sound quality ; Upgradeable

Could be too expensive for some ; Cheap speaker cable

In our opinion, the HTX-22HD produces a better sound than products like the Samsung HT-X715 and LG HT902TB, but it's more expensive and doesn't come with a built-in upscaling DVD player. Speaker bar systems like the Yamaha HTY-750 and Denon DHT-FS3 can...

Onkyo HTX-22HDX Home Cinema system

I still find it head-scratching that manufacturers can spend many years and millions of pounds in developing, mastering and fine-tuning the visual aesthetics of a flat screen TV or PC monitor, only to finish things off with a speaker that may well have...

I would love to see the website you see this priced up at £92 at as far as i can see and trust me ive been looking a long while they are still £200+!

A modestly sized ultra smooth 5.1 that rivals 7.1 & 9.1

First off, crank the sub to peak performance and correctly set listening distances for each channel. Buy the expansion speakers (HTX-22HDX) that include the center speaker, and two back surround - this makes the listening experience flow buttery smooth...

upgradeable to 5.1 -> oh yeah! Also 7.1 replication, seamless high-def audio with 3d pass through, hdmi 1.4's, digital optical audio, various listening modes and tweaks, sub-woofer vibrates floor far smoother and realistically than my 250w Onkyo sub

Wireless satellite speakers would be gravy

Great Surround System for the price

I bought HTX-22HDX with SKS-22X for only $240. The speakers are very good looking in piano black. I connected the subwoofer with the HDMI 1.4 cable to the ARC HDMI port of my Samsung 8000 TV. I didn't need other cables to the TV. When I turn on the TV...

Product Specifications

With a deficit of receiver/speaker packages that blend into your home both spatially and audibly - and deliver with the power and accuracy when it's needed most - Onkyo continues to provide with the release of the HT-S580 home entertainment 5.1-channel receiver/speaker package. With the HT-S580 supplying 100 watts per channel into its six channels, most would be satisfied. Look a little deeper and you will find that time-proven technologies, like WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) and Optimum Gain Volume Circuitry, show that the real power benefit lies in power that can be harnessed without distortion. Also, an H.C.P.S. (High Current Power Supply) transformer ensures there is power on hand for audio peaks and 192 kHz/24-bit DACs preserve the quality of the incoming signal. The 5.1-channel speakers have been designed to complement the receiver's drive power. Once again, quality, affordability and performance win.
