Pioneer A3 (XW-SMA3-K)

The Pioneer A3 does it all—it's a wireless speaker that streams audio via Apple's AirPlay, as well as via DLNA, HTC Connect, and even a direct wireless feature for when there is no Wi-Fi network around. As if this versatility weren't impressive enough,...

Powerful audio for the size. Streams wireless audio via AirPlay, DLNA, HTC Connect, and Wireless Direct when there is no Wi-Fi signal. Water-resistant, portable, with rechargeable battery

Distorts on deep bass tracks at top volumes. Very slow to power up. Overly complicated controls, and set up process is not terribly intuitive

The Pioneer A3 (XW-SMA3-K) is probably the most versatile wireless streaming speaker we've seen—it's even portable, rechargeable, and water resistant—but it doesn't sound like a $400 system.

Incredible balance and clarity ; Powerful sound ; Easy portability ; Cool minimalist design

Limited stereo field ; Some wireless connection interruptions ; A bit pricey

The sound the SMA3 reproduces on most styles of music is nothing short of phenomenal. Naturally, it has some sound limitations, because let’s face it: It’s a tiny little box that you can carry anywhere.

Great for bass-heavy music and has fantastic connectivity and great built-in battery, but high-frequency sound quality could be better
