Pioneer SW-8MK2 Subwoofer Reviewed

Terry London examines the SW-8MK2 subwoofer from Pioneer and is absolutely blown away by the level of performance that this $160 eight-inch, 100-watt subwoofer can deliver.

The Pioneer SW-8MK2 subwoofer is very well built for its price point and has the look of a more expensive unit ; The stock SW-8MK2 offers terrific sonic performance in the areas of increasing soundstage dimensions, image density, and extension of lower...

The Pioneer SW-8MK2 subwoofer only comes in a matte black ash finish, which might not match the color or wood grain of your main speakers

The Pioneer SW-8MK2 subwoofer offers remarkable performance, not just for its very inexpensive price but because it competes with much more expensive units. With the $160 stock model, the SW-8MK2 already has excellent bass extension and tonality. If...

Nice sounding speakers

Sturdy construction & caught it on sale. We use it with a new Yamaha RXV-677 AV Receiver.

I used the speakers in a 3.1 system that is now 5.1 (maybe 7.1 one day). The rear channels are the matched SP-BS22-LR and the center channel is an Energy Take 1 (5HW-1), and will eventually be replaced with a Pioneer SP-C22. The sub is an Energy...

Great Subwoofer to complete my Pioneer set

Got it on sale for $99. Nice and solid. Compliments and matches the rest of my Pioneer Speakers. Perfect for my room size. Movies and games sound great. For the price you can't go wrong.

Paid for 3 day shipping but took 4. Understanding because its around the holidays.

good for small rooms

I bought this from best buy 3 yrs ago initially for my main entertainment system. While it was ok, it was not enough for me. So I moved it to my bedroom and I became more pleased with it

I paid $120+ for it

Amazing for only 8" driver

I wanted to get two of these but decided on only one plus one Sony 10" sub to take things just a bit lower. Hoping it will be a nice combo.

Punchy deep hard hitting base reminiscent of the speakers we had back in the 80's. None of that fluttering distorted vibration most of today's subs were designed to produce (think Dubstep - ugg!)

hum coming from the amp. only noticeable between tracks

Sub died just under 2 years

Came back from a 2 week business trip put on some music and realized something was wrong, there was no bass at all. At first I thought it was completely dead, but then I put my ear up to it and you could hear muffled low frequencies coming out of the...

For the price and size, it sounded great... when it worked

It only worked for slightly less than 2 years

Great woofer for money

Overall I am satisfied with Pioneer speaker quality. I owe this little sub, surround speakers & bookshelf speakers for quite a time. In some case, however, you might wanna insulate speaker box little better.

Neat looking, without any fancy blows & whistles ; Good quality. I owe it over half a year - no problems encountered

Produces an audible hum

Sound quality is rather decent. The bass response it rather crisp. (I generally listen to music) . It is connected to a Yamaha receiver ; cabinets built quality seems nice. the feet provide plenty of vibration absorption

Main issue is that it produces an audible hum even when in standby ; It is not coming from the speaker , so it is not a ground fault

Nice for low budget

This Pioneer is a pretty good speaker. Not the best but pretty good especially considering the price. I used three for home theater with a tower on it's side for my center channel. I find most centers to be too small considering it's such an important...

Quality matching drivers. Design A real crossover network

Still a few inches too short

Can't beat this buy for the price!

I highly recommend these speakers. 'They look great and provide great audio for the price!

For the money, you can't beat these speakers. They have great audio reproduction in the upper frequency range for things like vocals and guitar. They look great and seem to be well constructed. For home theater, you can't beat these speakers if you are...

If I had to point out a flaw, I would say the only problem I have found with these speakers is the low end audio frequency reproduction. I would recommend adjusting the crossover of your amplifier and making sure your powered subwoofer is cut off at a...
