Samsung HW-D550 Home Theater System

Last summer I set out to buy myself a home theater system for my LCD TV. Since I was tight on space in my awkwardly shaped living room, a soundbar system seemed like it was the best way to go. The soundbar could sit across the top or bottom of my TV...

Simple to setup ; Great sounding ; Affordable, mid-range price ; Convenient wireless sub

Two HDMI inputs are too few considering all components are HDMI now ; Not a fan of the mini HDMI input use as it's not yet as common as full size HDMI ; High frequency reproduction was missing some clarity ; View the discussion thread.blog comments...

You can find the Samsung HW-D550 for around $449 CDN, a price that puts it at a median point of the soundbar market. Soundbar systems can be found as low as $250 (don't bother with these ones in my opinion) and up to $1099+. For sitting in the middle...

Samsung HW-D550 Speaker Bar

Over the past few years, we've reviewed quite a few Samsung products, but the last time we reviewed any speakers from them was back in 2005. Back then we took at look at a couple of Home Theater in-a-Box solutions and today we are taking a look at...

Excellent input options ; Good sound quality ; Wireless sub-woofer doesn't receive interference and just works ; USB port for firmware updates ; Lots of DSP, 3D, Auto-Level options ; Separate bass control and lots of bass

So close, and yet...

Amazingly, even though most of the useful TV remote features work when using Anynet+ with the ARC HDMI connection (including turning the HW-D550 off), Samsung inexplicably left turning the sound bar on out of the feature set. This has to be one of the...

A note to the previous reviewer

The previous reviewer stated that there is no intergration between this soundbar and the TV. However, a feature of this soundbar is Anynet+, a samsung-specific feature that allows you to control the soundbar using your television remote. If you connect...

No Integration but Great Sound

The system sounds great but lack of integration to the TV means that you have one more remote to deal with. But if you are looking for a small footprint audio system for your TV and you don't care about the second remote then it does have great sound.
